Later That Night

The party was jumpin as Kia, Darnell, Jordan and Simone stepped through the smoky hallways of the theta nu theta fraternity house. Air was infused with weed smoke and liquor as the couples made their way to table where the drinks were. Music boomed through the crowded space full of young under and upper classman.

"I picked the right weekend to visit baby it is craaazy up in here!" Simone cheers as she wraps her arm around her boyfriend's waist.

"Sis you aint never lied, looks like my baby picked the right time to see meeeee tooo" Kia added as her eyes fell to her boyfriend, taking him by the hand as he leaned in to peck her lips.

"Mmmm I missed you too baby boo" Darnell says as Simone and Jordan look at the young couple in awe, smiling to each other before joining the love train. The couples separately made out in their corners as the song changed. After some dancing, small talk and a measly ten minutes later, more familiar faces started to show up to the spot.

"Ay ay ay ayyyy get an room already" Spencer's voice fell through catching his friend's attention as they looked at him smiling wide.

"What up bro!" Jordan rushed to his bestfriend dapping him up before pulling him into an hug rocking back an forth.

"Good to see you again, Monieeee" Spencer sang as he pulled Simone by her arms to embrace her. She hugged him back warmly, grateful to be back in his presence again.

"It's great to see you too Spence, and you know how much I love you but where's my good sis at?"

"Far as I know at home with baby Em but you know she's an wild card so she could pop up" He shrugged his shoulders as he shared an brief reunion with his other bestfriend Darnell.

"Oh if anyone knows how much of an wild card she is, it's definitely you" Kia chimed smartly as Spencer shot her an smirk holding true to his poker face.

"I mean she ain't my baby mama just for the hell of it now is she?" Kia and Simone stuck their tongues out slapping hands with him as Jordan scoffed leaving Darnell to be the only one amused by this conversation.

"Yoooo I know that's my nieces mom and your baby mama, and ex-girlfriend but can ya'll cut the noise and remember that she's still my sister?" Everyone else erupted in laughter as Jordan looked away horrified, not wanting to know or hear about his sibling in that manner. The brother sighed loudly crosisng his arms acting out, catching his girl's attention.

"Alright alright ya'll thats enough traumatizing my baby for the night, let's move this reunion elsewhere" Simone pushes everyone further into the party as they walked through the house, Jordan and Darnell walking hand in hand with their women. The tempo of the song quickened hyping everyone up in the place.

"Ooooww this my song, come on babe!"

"Oooop me too! D roll wit me boo" Kia tugged at her boyfriend's shirt pulling him onto the dance floor, following suit behind the other couple, leaving Spencer to himself for the moment. He watched his friends have an good time as he sipped on the non-alcoholic punch in his solo cup. His eyes strayed away from the content of his drink, catching the set of eyes staring up in his direction. He raised his cup nodding to the pretty face with an small smile before taking an few more gulps. His nerves started to build as he noticed those same set of eyes walking towards him.

"Having fun?"

"Oh tons," He answers the girl as she tilted her head to the side not believing him for an second.

"Liar" Her red lips smeared the edge of her cup as her manicured nails wrapped around it, taking another drag.

"You're the one to talk, didn't look like you were enjoying yourself either"

"I wasn't, until you walked in the door" He glanced at her as the words slipped from her tongue. The adolescent father cleared his throat as an way to name the tension building up. Sexual tension. On her part but not his own. Together or not, his heart was already spoken for. She stuck her hand out, gesturing him to take it. His palm pushed up against hers as she offered her name.

"Jess"

"Spencer James"

"Wait an minute, as in The Spencer James, first wide receiver, that Spencer James?" She pointed pretending to be shocked as he laughed shyly honored that she knew who he was.

"The one and only" He smiled with slow sips.

"Well this has turned out to be an pretty great night for me. You here with anyone?"

"Rollin solo but an couple of my friends are here enjoying their time, wby, how you rolling?" the player asked the pretty stranger.

"Just an couple of girlfriends, one last hurrah before the semester's up. So, Spencer James, why are you over here when you should be on the dance floor wit your friends?" She says, the twinkle in her eyes seeping through. His body twisted towards her petite frame.

"Cuz I'm not tryna be an blocker"

"Blocker on what?" Jess asked as her eyes traveled to the spot Spencer's finger had been pointing at, in the middle of the dance floor where Jimone and Dia were laid out, making out and dancing all close to one another.

"Now I see why you over here" She clicked her teeth rolling her tongue over her bottom lip as he chuckled under his breath.

"You the one giving me the third degree, why you ain't out there?"

"Because nobody's asked me yet" Her eyes lowered to his as another sliver of liquor slipped down her throat, the burn from the taste of the alochol lingering on her lips.

"I don't dance" He said quickly.

"Live an little, Spencer James" His name rolled off her tongue as she took his hand pulling them onto the dance floor. His body hesitated as she tugged him closer to her body.

Dont over think it Spence, it's just an dance.

He thought to himself as Jess clutched her arms around his neck as his hands gravitated to her waistline. Their bodies rocked matching the beat and rhythm of the song playing. Minutes had gone and passed before Spencer got lost in how calm the current vibe gave him, not knowing the object of his affection was walking through the doors. Her eyes wandered around to Jordan, Simone, Kia and Darnell hugged up in the corner to the side. She smiled making her way to them before the events happening in the middle of the dance floor, halted her steps. She felt the sting of heartbreak crumbling inside of her as she watched Spencer dance with another girl. He was smiling, and appeared to be having an good time. Good time without her, and it was all her fault. The ringing in her ear grew louder as she replayed the events of their eventual breakup in her head.
