"Lexi check table number 5," Melissa shouted.

I quickly closed my phone and headed toward table 5. My mind tried to wrap around this boy who wanted to be my friend. For god's sake, I don't even know who he is, what he does. For all I know he can be a creepy dude.

But he was really funny when he talked on the phone and even Violet said that he seemed quite entertaining. But looks can be deceiving.

The positive thing about this situation is that finally, I talked to someone with ease after nearly a year. I guess I can take a chance and become friends with him and hopefully get back to my old self.

But you can't be the same person you used to be. My mind taunted me.

God I am so confused.

Then I reached table 5.

"Hello welcome to spices. My name is Lexi and I will be serving you all this evening. What do you like to order", I asked the group of college students.

After they gave their orders I headed towards the kitchen and informed Miss. Carter. She works in the kitchen. While she was taking care of the order I saw Violet descending the stairs. I rushed to her to ask about the guy.

She owns this restaurant and she is cares a lot about me. I started working here almost an 6 months ago to get few things off my mind. Even though it is 2 hours from my home I loved it here, especially workers here and environment.

"Hey Violet, I wanted to ask you something", I said.

"What is it, squirt?" she asked.

"Squirt the food is ready" yelled Miss. Carter

"Oh I guess I have to leave, but I will talk to you after serving," I said to Violet.

After serving them, I walked to Violet who is sitting near the counter watching people.

"Violet, I wanted to talk about the boy you gave my number to", I said to her.

"Oh, that boy is something", she said with a smile.

Her response when I asked her why she gave him my number was that he seemed like a nice boy and had something to say to me. This counts as something since she is like a crazy mother hen around me. And really protective of me.

Her only son lives in New York, she only gets to see him during Christmas. Seeing how my home is about 2 hours away from campus, she is like a second mother to me.

"He asked my name and said he wanted to be my friend. "I don't know what to do, it's driving me crazy", I said.

"Darling he seemed like a really decent boy. You can give him a chance. Anyway, he only asked to be your friend, why are you thinking too much about that?" she said.

"You know how I don't have any friends and I can't even talk to new people without stuttering. And most importantly I don't even know him." I argued.

"Lexi, you don't have friends because the previous ones are too narrow-minded to stick with you, and believe me you deserve better than them. And about your social anxiety, it's okay things will get better. You know this boy seems really talkative and funny. I don't know but something tells me he can be a reliable friend."

"You don't need to tell him about yourself to be friends with him," she continued after I did not respond.

"What do you mean", I asked her.

"You can text him first, then call him once you feel comfortable doing so, then once you feel he's trustworthy you can meet him in person. So, how does that sound to you?" she asked.

"That's a smart idea. I will think about it. I can't really stay like this forever. I should at least try talking with people. I guess this will be a good start." I said and left to attend to another table.

I guess I am gonna finally come out of my shell.
