⚠️NOT STEALING⚠️
*Y/N POV*
Me, Fresh, and Error had been walking for a bit before reaching the kits' den. Both Fresh and Error stayed together while I went to the den's entrance and peeked in. I saw both Snapper and Fawn asleep, so I gently nudged Snapper awake.
He groggily opened his eyes and looked at me. "Come on my dear. Wake up your sister. You both have a hunting lesson today!" I say gently. I see his eyes light up a bit before he nods his head and starts to wake up Fawn.
I leave the entrance of the den and look over to Fresh and Error. I see Error kneel down to Fresh's height. They both seemed to be...talking to each other??? I look in their direction in confusion when I felt a slight nip on my leg.
I look down to see a determined Snapper and a very tired Fawn. I licked Fawn on her face making her giggle a bit. I then look back to Error and Fresh and barked at them, telling them to come over.
They both look at me and I see Error stand up before walking over to me with Fresh. Once they we close, I started to sniff around and instantly picked up the scent of a rabbit. I start to follow the trail with Fresh, Error, and the kits in pursuit.
Error eventually leaves our group to go and hunt a deer while me, Fresh, and the kits try and find the rabbit. Once the smell starts to become a little bit fresher, I stopped. I called the kits to me, and they stumbled over each other, trying to be the first one to hunt.
Once they got to me, they sat down while wagging their tails. I chuckled a bit, "Alright. So, the key to hunting is to have a good sense of smell, hearing, strength, stamina, and stealth. If you don't have one of these five skills, then you would most likely fail at your hunt." I say while looking them both in the eye.
They both looked at each other before looking back to me. I see that Snapper looked even more determined than before while Fawn looked a little bit terrified but excited. I then continue to explain the necessities for hunting.
Once I finished, I had sniffed around for the rabbit's scent again. I then followed the trail once more before finding a fresher spot, indicating that the rabbit was close. I stopped and let the kits try and find the scent.
"Focus on your sense of smell but not too much. Youneed to be able to stay alert at all costs. Once you found the scent, I want you to follow it until you reach your prey." I say while watching them. Snapper had found the scent of the rabbit a few minutes after I had stopped speaking.
While Fawn, seemed to be struggling a bit. She finally found the scent a bit after her brother did and started to follow it as well. Me and Fresh trailed after them until they stopped behind a couple of ferns. I looked over the ferns to see a plump rabbit eating some leaves off of a plant.
I slowly crouched down to the two and said, "Now that you have your prey in your sights, you're going to want to be very stealthy, so you won't alert them of your presence. You're going to want to stay in the shadows and creep closer and closer to them until you're close enough to pounce on them. Once you have them in your grasp you have to make sure they won't get away."
"You must find a weak point and go for it. Do not hesitate, as this is a matter of you going to bed with an empty stomach and failure, or a satisfied tummy and victory." I say while looking at the two. They both nodded before looking back to the rabbit.
I made Snapper go first since he was the oldest. He would need to learn first, just in case Fawn wasn't successful and he would need to keep her fed. He slowly stalked over to the rabbit while hiding in the ferns, careful to be as quiet as a mouse.
Once he got close enough to the rabbit he crouched down and pounced on it. The rabbit tried to scramble away but was a second too late. Snapper pinned it down and immediately went for its neck. He held it there and bit down hard.
He stayed like that until the rabbit finally stopped moving. He bit down harder, making sure that it was dead before letting go and looking at me. I nodded my head in approval. Fresh went over to him and congratulated him.
I was going to go as well when I saw Fawn shaking a bit. "Are you alright, dear?" I asked her while lowering my head down to her. She was looking down with fear in her eyes. She then looked to me, "I don't wanna fail mommy...I'm scared." She said while trembling.
I looked at her sympathetically and nuzzled her. "You'll be alright my love. It's alright if you don't get it the first time. You will have a lot of times to practice hunting. Your brother will help you, as will me and Fresh. You will not fail us." I say softly.
She calms down a bit before nodding her head. Fresh and Snapper then come over to us with Snapper's kill. I congratulated him before I started to find another rabbit scent. Once I did, I followed it with the others in tow.
I stopped once the trail was fresh and made Fawn find it. She found it a bit faster this time and followed it. We hid behind a bush while watching the rabbit eat berries off of a bush. This rabbit was a little less plump than the one Snapper caught, but that was alright.
Fawn then started to get closer to the rabbit as she got closer, she accidentally stepped on a twig, snapping it in the process. The rabbit then stopped what it was doing and looked around on high alert. I saw Fawn's ears pinned to her head and she began to shake again.
She looked at me and I gave her and encouraging look. She calmed a bit before forcing herself to relax. She then focused on the rabbit and didn't move until it started to eat again. She started to stalk closer, being more careful of where she stepped, and crouched down.
She then pounced on the rabbit, but it had escaped her grasp. She stood there, looking in the direction of where the rabbit had run off to. Me, Fresh, and Snapper looked at each other in worry and walked over to her.
She was as still as a statue and had a look of sadness in her eyes. I nuzzled her and she began to cry a bit."Hey! Hey! No need to cry! You did great! You'll get it next time!" I say as I lowered my head to her eyelevel.
Snapper set aside his kill and ran up to her, "You did amazing! I bet the next time you try catch it you'll get it by surprise!" He said encouragingly. Fresh came over and nuzzled her head, "Ya did good kiddo! Betta than how I did when I was yur age." He said while looking at her softly.
She sniffed a bit before looking at all three of us with a smile. "Thanks, everyone! I feel much better now!" She said happily. Snapper smiled at her while me and Fresh looked at each other a bit.
We both smiled at one another before nuzzling Fawn and Snapper. We then started to walk back to the den with Snapper's kill and Fawn's determination...
