"Well, how have you two been faring?" the doctor asked Jane and Mitsugo.

"Good, pretty good," Jane said.

"Yeah, same here," Mitsu replied.

I sat in between my two pregnant lovers, while Dr. Klein sat in front of us three. This was the first time that I had been to one of these prenatal check-ups, and the first for both Mitsu and Jane since I had impregnated them. A part of me was nervous about the stigma I'd get from the doctor, especially with us requesting that she accommodate both Jane and Mitsu in one visit.

Dr. Klein, who looked like she was in her early thirties, turned her attention to Jane first. She quickly adjusted her glasses and pulled a strand of her wavy, brown hair behind her ear.

"Now Jane, you are only in your first month of pregnancy, yes?" she asked.

"Five weeks, yes," Jane said with a smile. She rested one of her hands atop her pregnant belly, the other intertwined with mine. She gently rubbed the top of her pregnant dome, which was completely covered by a skin-tight grey athletic shirt, while she wore a maroon pair of yoga pants.

"Well, you look very large for someone who's only five weeks pregnant. Frankly, I've never seen a woman as large as you so early in a pregnancy," Dr. Klein stated.

"We were hoping to have more than one baby, so we're happy that we got our wish," Jane looked at me with a big grin, to which I smiled back.

"Well, we can see exactly how many babies you're carrying during the ultrasound," Dr. Klein said, her attention now turning to Mitsu. "Now Mitsugo, last I saw you; it was your last appointment before you were supposed to be induced for labor, and yet you're still pregnant."

"Yeah well, I ran into a few unexpected events," Mitsu said as she squeezed my hand. She rested her free hand on the side of her belly, which was entirely covered by her white leggings. The waistband extended all the way up under her breasts, where a black crop top covered her breasts and shoulders.

"Yes, from what I was told by the OB/GYN folks over at the hospital, it sounds like your fetuses underwent what they characterized as a 'redevelopment,'" she said using air-quotes. Mitsu nervously smiled. We all knew that the doctor was here to help these two, but given how absurd these two pregnancies were, they were worried that they'd leave a bad impression with her because of how strange their situations were.

"Frankly, your two cases are the most unusual I've ever seen or heard of," she said, "however, you two have truly piqued my interest. I'd be more than interested to see what may turn up on an ultrasound."

The both of them sighed in relief. Dr. Klein got up from her chair and stood before Jane. "How about we start with you," she said, "let's see how many babies you're carrying."

Jane looked at me excitedly, I smiled just seeing her so giddy. We both got up from our chairs, holding hands the entire time as we walked over to the examination bed. I helped Jane get comfortable on the table, while Jane lifted her shirt and lowered her yoga pants to reveal her bare belly. It was a beautiful sphere of flesh, completely free of any blemish whatsoever. Laying back, her belly filled a good portion of her lap and stuck straight up into the sky, her distended belly button just the cherry on top.

Dr. Klein first got out a tape measure and wrapped it around the circumference of her belly and back. "60 inches right on the dot," she said as she retracted the tape measure. That was an incredible figure, especially since she measured 44 inches a couple of weeks ago. We had been keeping track every day now with the markings on our wall, but it was still mind-boggling that she was so big already.

Dr. Klein next got out the cool gel used for the ultrasound and quirted a nice glob of it onto Jane's belly. Jane shivered a bit from the cold feeling against her belly, like she would do whenever I slathered her belly with the belly butter. Dr. Klein pushed the ultrasound wand into Jane's belly and began spreading the ultrasound gel around, the two of us looked at the ultrasound monitor eagerly awaiting a picture to appear.
