chapter vii , the devil on earth

"I'M GOING OUT!" We were doing well as far as everything goes.

The sun hung in the sky, shining down on all of its beings. The clouds were little to none, although the temperature had started to drop past the fifties. Techno and Wilbur were arguing over about something with handrails in the downstairs when I was walking out.

It was a nice day, but we needed more wood.  Someone insisted on creating an assemblage of ladders and "accidentally" a smidge few buttons.  We're using the buttons as firewood now, but it's running out more blistering than if we just used the wood from before the construction of the buttons and ladders.

I sighed.  Kids will be kids, just roll with it.

The trees appeared lofty when I tilted my head up to view the sight. It was a rare day when Mother Nature chose to be peaceful in this section of land.

Ranging from thunderstorms, partial flooding from excess rainwater, tree seeds not wanting to sprout, or branches giving up on life, nature is an unpredictable, mischievous thing. I guess you can look at it as a child with its toys.

I can't remember when I was a child.

However, I hope I had a vibrant and vivacious childhood.

Unfortunately—

        crack.

I halted. Completely. Frozen in my tracks.

There was a wave of flapping wings amongst the tree's canopy—birds were shooting up towards the sky. Leaves rustled and wolves in range howled a big one to gather all of their members.   There were more crackling rustles within the bushes.

Upon a few more minutes of my ears detecting alarming sounds, I had realized one crucial thing.

I was not alone.

"Show your face! Who else here?" I shouted, taking on a defensive stance. My heart was pounding at the pace of a galloping horse.  I only carried an axe.  No armor.  I don't want to die again—of anything, it's such a hassle to remember like I am right now.

A shadow creeped from within the trees. It slowly came into the light, donning a large, dark olive cloak that went down to their hips, leather padding where necessary. Their face was shrouded with a circular white mask. The round mask had a back smile and face on it. I infer it was drawn on. The figure stepped towards me, one step at a time.

I took a few steps back. Their brown boots crunches the dried leaves underneath their steps. A netherite sword was strapped onto their back.

"Y/N," this person knows my name!— "I just want to talk to you." His steps stopped, head up. "Won't you come reminisce with an old friend? I promise you no violence."

I gripped my axe firmly. "I don't know you—back up."

The masked man shook his head slowly.  His hand reached up, fingers seizing his hood before tugging it down.  Underneath revealed a head full of dirty blond hair, unkept from all the ruckus of peregrinating everywhere.
