N A D I A
"Hello?"
"Hi is this Nadia" The feminine voice asks through the phone. "I'm Sevyn. I saw the flier on campus that talked about a rental space? I have an inquiry." Her tone is smooth an mellow, sounding the same way a poet would preform.
Nadia can't help but clutch tighter onto the telephone cord while doing small hops where she's standing in excitement. Biting her lip to hold in my squeal she responds, "Yes this is she."
"Perfect." Sevyn signs out in relief. "I've been looking for a place more stable for months now. I think this may be the closest I've come."
In the past three months right before the start of Sevyn's sophomore year at Spelman, she had lost her job. She attends Spelman strictly on an academic scholarship, so all other finances -per her parents rules- are all hers to handle.
The school did an incredibly terrible job of inviting more students than dorms available so Sevyn was out of luck.
This was her last opportunity before she'd end up homeless and she was desperate for good news.
I hope you not expecting too much, Nadia thinks to herself. While she has done some decorating since she's moved in , Nadia still isn't pleased. The perfectionism attitude in her DNA won't allow her to be.
Nadia pushes past the scattered boxes on her room floor and throws the messy pile of clothes off the bed to make a place to sit. She had spent so much of her time on the downstairs and other rooms she had forgotten about her own.
"I'm so glad! Do you have any questions for me?"
"Not any over the phone. Could we meet at the Starbucks near campus tomorrow?" Sevyn asks hopefully. "Like 4?"
Nadia thought this was a good enough idea since you could never really know someone over a short phone call. "Yeah that sounds good. See you then."
"Thanks so much goodbye."
"Bye."
Flopping her back onto her bed and kicking her feet up in the air, Nadia screams in excitement. "Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!" She cheeses pumping her fist into the air.
Things are coming together She smiles.
Her attention is soon drawn to the lump of clothes and bags beneath her that she though she had thought she moved. Sighing heavily, Nadia prepares to finally tackle her room.
