So if you have looked at any of my announcements you may have noticed I've mentioned Malignant Hyperthermia. And you all are probably like? WTF is that? Well, let me educate you!
(WARNING- GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS, MENTIONS OF DEATH AND CAN CAUSE YOU TO GET UNCOMFORTABLE)
scroll past if you want to skip-
Malignant Hyperthermia is a mutation in the RYR1 gene. It is a dominant gene meaning you can have it but it is not ever been activated. I most likely do have it as dominant so it is a real danger to me. It is caused by a general anaesthetic and has no cure. There are things to treat the symptoms but with them being administered it causes someone who has the mutation dominant to be comatose. it is also characterised by hypermetabolism.
also more common in males- sorry irl brother- qwq
The reason I can tell I have it as even though I get safe anaesthetic gases used on me during both operations I still was unconscious for several hours- even though I was only supposed to be asleep for 45 minutes.
If an anaesthetic gas that triggers the allergy is administered to a person with this allergy it can be lethal. It causes the person to become so physically hot that their cells rapidly deteriorate (the person -if awake- would feel like they are burning in the hottest fire all over), their veins and arteries expand and threaten to explode, their muscles spasm like crazy also are Ridgid, causes rapid heart rate so as to remove the increasing carbon dioxide from the lungs (most cases die to the heart exploding if the increasing body temperature doesn't cause all their cells to deteriorate first), increased carbon dioxide production and Acidosis – the blood pH drops due to Increased production of carbon dioxide from Muscle cells, Organ failure is also common such as kidneys failing. Rhabdomyolysis: rapid breakdown of damaged muscle tissue (which links to the rapid cell deterioration) and lastly (from my knowledge) Hyperkalaemia: increased levels of potassium in the blood.
also props to my Biology teacher who is a geneticist who helped me learn some of this- such as the heart exploding and the gene- we still don't know which chromosome though. Couldn't find any information on it anywhere- even on the professional websites he has access to as a genetic Doctor - I know as he went on it in front of me and couldn't find shit on which Chromosone- just the gene.

As you can tell this is quite scary and a big complication. My mother has it so I for sure have the mutated gene and during both procedures, I was unconscious and showed some symptoms of Malignant Hyperthermia so until my blood test results come in, I have to be treated as if I have it as a dominant gene too.
And Basically- I am an anaesthetist's WORST Nightmare.
So now you know! haha- my teacher did reasure me I can live a normal life but- as you all know. This book is about my surgery journey! Recovery! and Preparation! So- I had to use a local anaesthetic- basically has a tube in my hand- not fun. And they had to save an entire machine just for me- I feel so special- as so it would have no chance of having any other lethal gases -to me- in them! I will talk more about the surgery itself in another chapter-
And they also saved an oxygen mask too- so when i was put under by feeling a freezing cold liquid flow through me by my hand- i smelled cottoncandy- no joke- the mask smelt like cottoncandy and i told my entire team of several doctors as such before i went unconcious-
But like i said i slept for several hours extra then i should have and when i woke up in my ward- I ended up getting to sleep over at the hospital- worse night of my life- no offense to them it just wasn't comfortable to be woken up like 5 times by a nurse prodding my toes to make sure i had a good blood pressure in them-
Well that is basically all I'm comfortable with saying soooo bye- (697 words)
