Chapter Three

He takes me to a small opening in the trees. There are pictures hanging from the branches of the trees, all the memories with Cole and I and some with Liz to. In the middle of the picture cloud is a silver charm bracelet with my name and a treble clef on one side and a black heart on the other. Emotion swells through my chest and I feel my eyes starting to water. I reach out my hand and touch a picture of Cole and I by the river trying to skip rocks when we were seven. I look up at Cole and I'm just so happy to see him here, happy that he did this for me. I wrap my arms around his neck without thinking and kiss him. His eyes widen but doesn't pull away, instead he pulls me closer. I'm the one who pulls away and say, " I'm sorry, I just...."
"Shhhh." Cole pulls me into a hug and whispers calming words into my ear. I pull back and spin around and bathe in the memories. Cole pulls down the bra let and clasps it around my wrist. I sit down in my dress and Cole sit beside me with his arms around my shoulder. I lean into his touch and we stay there for about thirty minutes until I heard something. I lift my head trying to locate the noise but all I see is pictures and trees. Cole stands up and gives me the i heard it to look and helps me up to. He starts to walk in the direction it came from, I follow behind. A shiver goes through my body when we get near the sound. There's another sound and I jump a little. Cole takes my hand and tell me to be quieter. I look behind a tree and around some more when I happens again right in front of me. I give Cole a look and go through the brush. I find breanna and Justin making out. Brianna screams and Justin just bows his head with blush? On his cheeks.
" what the hell are you doing here Elodie! Why do you have to be such a noseie bitch!" Words escape me and I just stand there. Cole clenches his jaw and says," What are you doing? I'm pretty sure your boyfriend is at the party waiting on you while your out here with," Cole lifts his hand toward Justin," him." I still just stand there, Brianna looks down and Justin gives her a frown and walks away. Cole takes my hand and leads me back to the party, I look back and Brianna is sitting with her face in her hands. I can't help but feel a little bad for her.
"We have cake! " Liz says as she lights the candles, all sixteen of them. She glances at me and starts the happy birthday song and everybody starts to sing it with her. My cheeks get hot and I can feel everyone starring at me when the song ends. My mind wonders into the memories of dad and I blowing the candles out together and him gliding his finger across the frosting and sticking it on my nose. I stand there frozen, people mumble and my heart feels like it trying to win a race. I get a feeling like I stuffed cotton in my mouth and can't speak. I run. I dodge around trees and gifts. I run and run, my dress gets caught on branches and my heel breaks. I don't know how long I run for but when I stop I can't hear any music or anybody. The sun shines in my eyes and I put a hand over my head making a hat. Nothing looks familiar, I'm lost.
