Snaketooth and Foxtuft padded around the gloomy forest. Their trial had been short, being sent to the dark forest almost immediately after they died. Foxtuft looked up at Snaketooth with wide eyes. "Did we... make a mistake?" He asked, uncertainty glimmering in his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"Was it right to take advantage and kill so many cats? We didn't even have a reason to do so."
Snaketooth blinked at him. "Are you saying you regret staying with me?" His voice cracked as though he were genuinely hurt.
"No!" He responded at once, "But... What if we never hurt anyone? Ever?"
Snaketooth's gaze softened. "Iciclecrash would still be with me." He murmured. Foxtuft's tail bristled. I'm your mate now! She's old news! His eyes blazed with anger. Snaketooth had to stop living in the past. "I miss her so much." He admitted.
"Oh, boo-hoo. Cry me a river." Foxtuft snarled, whipping around and stalking away in the opposite direction. Snaketooth watched him leave with dismay. He said he loved me now, not her! Jealousy made his pelt burn. He blinked. He realized he was alone again. Great. He looked around uneasily. Foxtuft sat inside of a hollow stump, hiding from passing spirits.
Snaketooth loomed over him, and he jumped. "Hi." Snaketooth licked his head.
"Hi, Fox-breath." He teased gently. He liked when Snaketooth showed him affection. It made both of them forget about Iciclecrash.
"Here. Can I show you something?"
"Sure!"
He followed Snaketooth towards a small crack in a tree. Foxtuft's eyes widened. Light shone through it, glowing dimly in the gloomy forest. "Is that the way to Starclan?" He asked.
"We can spy on Starclan warriors from here." Snaketooth twitched his ears. "Maybe I can see her again..."
Foxtuft's tail bristled in anger. "Snaketooth, who's your mate?"
"Her."
His fur spiked up. "You said you loved me!" He accused. "Did you lie, then?"
"No..." Snaketooth's eyes were full of apathy. "I would never lie to you."
Foxtuft growled, lashing his tail. He was lying. He didn't love him.
It's all Iciclecrash's fault! I will make sure she and her kin will pay for what she did to him. His eyes blazed with hatred. No cat will be safe from me. His claws ripped the ground.
"Are you alright?" Snaketooth mewed. "Wanna go to the lake?"
"Sure."
Foxtuft followed Snaketooth away from the crack after giving it a last glance, studying his opponent carefully. Iciclecrash was a small she-cat.
He could take her.
