"C'mon, sis! You can do better than that!" He said, swinging his staff at her. Rose and her brother, Kai, were training before lunch. Kai was winning. He usually did. She pulled her own staff up just in time to block his swing. Rose was better suited for defence, as in she could literally create shields out of thin air, which is what she usually did. She was actually fairly a very good fighter, but she wasn't too aware of this, as she had never left the temple grounds. She and her brother had been protecting the temple and its contents since they were kids, and she had no memory of anything before.
The Paxwerso-Chron Temple stood atop the tallest mountain in all the Vystreme Isles. Inside were hundreds of artifacts, many with unknown origins. Many were magical in some way, while others were more... chemically dangerous. Science made their job a lot harder.
Rose was actually pretty sure they had been born at the temple, or created from some artifact or something, because there were no mentions of any creatures like them in any of their books. Rose and Kai were mythical beings, of what kind, she did not know. They were similar enough that you could tell they were related, but they still looked very different. Kai was more demonic, with his horns, thin boney tail, and small demon-like wings. Rose was more bird-like. She had big feathery wings, and a long fluffy tail. That was literally the only way to describe her tail. Fluff. It wasn't covered in fur, and it wasn't covered in feathers. It was a weird puffy mix, like one of those pillows. However they both had similar body constructs, and they both had weird little halos floating around their heads. Kai had two floating around his horns, while Rose's was horned and floating slightly esque.
"Rose, you've gotta fight back at some point. You won't improve if you don't even try!"
"I am improving! My blocks are getting better and better!" She yelped, dodging another stroke. Kai sighed. "Okay, but when you get into a fight where defense isn't an option anymore, don't come crying to me." he paused for a moment. "Actually, nevermind, do come crying to me. I can't have you dieing."
"Kai!!!"
