"I was climbing the mountain to bring you supplies, when I heard a commotion from below and saw the guards being overtaken by what seemed to be a small army. I tried to get away, but some of them had horses. I had to engage, but I was able to kill them. The rest of the guards on the steps knew what was happening by then, so I ran straight here."
Rose was shocked. Someone was actually attacking them? An entire army, albeit a small one? She wasn't ready for this! Maybe she could fly out and scout the numbers a bit more? But she might get shot at, and she wasn't exactly looking forward to that experience.
"Do they have any projectile weapons? Like, bows, or catupults?" She asked.
"I'm not sure, but probably not. No one shot at me while I was running, and if they had bows they would've. Or at least, should've. You don't usually let someone go and warn the thing you're attacking that you're coming to attack. It'd be a horrible strategy."
"Well, as much as I hate to break this conversation up, the army could be here soon, and we aren't prepared at all." Kai reminded them.
"Good point"They made Tyler stay in the infirmary, ignoring his many protests. He wanted to help them fight, but there was no way they were letting that happen, in his condition. But they left him his sword, in case someone did get in and he needed to protect himself. But they'd trained to protect this temple their whole lives, so surely they could at least put up a fight!
Tyler had also given them some input on strategy. He suggested that Kai take the front, and Rose guard the actual doors to the temple, given both their skills. Seeing no problem with this plan, and having none better themselves, they heeded his advice.
Rose was glad the temple had been built in such a way that it was higher than everything. She could see everything that came up the hill, which made her job much easier. Kai also had a pretty good view of the land, but he was much lower than her, near the entrance. He had armed himself with a katana, some knives, and a double-bladed scythe. None of their books said what it was actually called, so Kai had lovingly named it 'The Sharvester'. He claimed it was a perfect name, a combination of 'soul' and 'harvester'. Rose was skeptical, but it was his weapon, not hers.
Rose had equipped herself with a haladie knife and a thin-bladed sword. She also had a quarterstaff lying nearby, in case she needed a more familiar weapon. The blades were deadlier, but she knew how to use the staff better, which could come in handy at some point. She didn't plan on doing much actual fighting, though. Her job was to keep the attackers out of the temple, and away from the doors. Her main 'weapon' would be her magic shields.
