Song: A song for Daisy-Hotel Mira
Lucas
I grunted as Sage guzzled down another vodka shot, and everyone followed suit. Here I thought I could handle a night out, but I was getting old. I will regret this in the morning, no question about that. I was about to leave but Sage pulled me to the table and handed me another shot.
"Damn, I missed this. Good thing I don't have a shift tomorrow." Charlie stated.
"Me neither, so we could- " Charlie glared at Megan and motioned towards Sage. Sage shook her head. She was amazingly drunk, so she barely heard them. I don't think I have ever seen anyone this drunk and that includes a frat party or two.
"Maybe we should head home. You okay to drive Ana?" I asked, eager to get home. Ana nodded quickly. She was still glued to her screen cracking a smile every now and then.
"I'm also good to go, we have a lot to still get done." Charlie winked to Megan.
Sage looked as though she was about to explode on them, so I pulled her up out of the seat. I wasn't so steady myself, so we collided, but mostly kept upright.
"Ana, let's go." Ana snapped her gaze up to us and scooted around to get out of the booth. I need to get home so I can talk to Eve. We said our goodbyes, and both had to drag Sage to the car. This was not how I was expecting our night to turn out. Sage clearly tried to drink Charlie away, roping me in with her. Charlie was partly oblivious of her while kissing and holding onto Megan. He and Sage would however give each other a seething look every now and then. Ana was still looking for abductees and seemed to have hit the jackpot with someone on a forum.
Sage waved at Charlie furiously while clenching a smile.
She fell into the backseat and almost instantly passed out. I slumped down into the passenger seat next to Ana, releasing a sigh of relief.
"Sorry about tonight. Sage and Charlie are- it's strange. I just wish they would make up or move on."
"Her and Todd look-"
"Shh, don't even say it. They have been denying that for years, but it is so clear. They should just do it and get it over with. The tension is getting to me at this point." I chuckled. She side eyed me for a moment.
"I saw you and Eve. At the barbeque you both disappeared for a few days. Did you maybe... meet my friends?" Aka was I abducted by aliens? Maybe. I don't remember much.
"I don't think so. We went on a spur of the moment trip." Not a lie.
"You two look cute together" I grunted. That's the thing, we are together.
I opened the car door pulling Sage out to carry her to the house, but Todd stopped me and carried her bridal style to her house. Ana stopped me before I could open the front door.
"I know it is not my place to say anything but just be careful with Eve, she is pretty fragile." I frowned.
"Did she say something?" She shook her head.
"Let's just say my friends gave me a special power to see things." With that she turned to the house and strutted away. I sat down at the breakfast table, grabbing a cup for black coffee. I am going to need it before I call Eve.
Todd found me in the kitchen.
"Looks like you had quite the night." Did I? I just drank myself into oblivion and tried to stop Sage from attacking Charlie and skinning him alive.
"Perhaps. I'll know tomorrow. How was your night?" He shrugged.
"What can I say? I am an amazing dungeon master. What's up with Sage?"
"Charlie and his girlfriend Megan. It was definitely not Ana's aliens that caused that reaction." I quipped.
"This must've been bad. Haven't seen her like this in years." Before I could slug to my room, Todd handed me a letter.
"What's this?"
"An invitation, I didn't read anything past your name." I unfolded the invitation.
"You are cordially invited to the union of Haley Peterson and Aspen Harrison." I muttered.
"Oh your sister is getting married soon?"
"Yeah, in three weeks. I completely forgot with everything going on. I should drive up there earlier to help with a few things. She asked me since our parents aren't coming."
"Hey, then Haley could meet Eve. You're taking her with you, right?" That's not happening. No one knows about this and I want to keep it that way. Haley never cared for Olivia and vice versa. I don't think Eve would be any different. Meeting the family is off the table. Though she did ask me to bring someone with me as my date. She stated and I quote "I don't want your divorcee stink infesting my joyous wedding, bring along someone to mask that please."
Blunt as always.
"Definitely not happening. Again, this a fake marriage."
"Not on paper. Besides you moaned about getting a date for it even before you moved in. This is a lucky coincidence if you ask me. "
"I suppose I could ask her when I call. It's going to be awkward for them to meet for sure."
"Nah, not more awkward than me seeing the two of you at it. Nothing could be more awkward." True.
I grabbed my phone and called Eve when he left for bed. She answered as the call rang. It was very late so I didn't think she'd be awake.
"Hey, you wanted to talk to me?" I tried to play off my drunkenness.
"Actually. I'd prefer we do this in person but...I have much more courage on the phone."
"What's going on Eve?" I could hear her nervousness which made me sober up quickly.
"Besides having to annul our fake marriage which our lawyers are working on, things just got a lot more complicated. I...don't know how to say this. I don't want to hurt you, but I also don't want to say nothing. I mean I like you, maybe even love you a little but um- "
"Eve, what is it?" That love you comment had my heart starting to pound out of my chest. She was starting to ramble.
"I'm pregnant."
