Part 1"The head of the Yamato government was known as the 'o-kimi'. He controlled the powerful families of each region using the uji-kabane system-"
It'd now been three weeks since the entrance ceremony. It was currently the first period and we had history being taught by Sae Chabashira-sensei, Class 1-D's homeroom teacher. Suffice to say, her way of teaching wasn't very engaging.
"Uji referred to groups that shared the same bloodline, while kabane referred to post and status."
Our class, while often attentive and studious for the most part, found these lessons the most difficult to sit through while remaining focused. This was especially true for Tabata and Terumento. I could see Tabata scrolling through some sort of book on his tablet and Terumento was fast asleep. The pair of them had been dubbed the "idiot duo" by some of the nastier people in our class because of their antics.
I would have thought Chabashira-sensei would lash out at them, considering the cold and miserable aura she gave off. However, she didn't seem to care and kept on teaching regardless. It's been the same with the other teachers as well for the last few weeks. I guess the fact that most of the students are studying diligently is deterring them from taking any action that is immediately noticeable.
The bell rang ending the first period.
"That's all for today, make sure to revise the material thoroughly," she said unenthusiastically exiting the classroom, not even looking back as she left.
"Ayanokoji-kun, haven't you made quite a few friends?" Himeno suddenly asked me.
"Well, sort off," I said.
"Sort off?"
Although I was worried at first, I'd luckily managed to talk to a couple of guys that I could now call friends. Shibata and I seem to get on reasonably well and I talk frequently with Kanzaki too. However, I was far from having someone I could call a best friend, friendships like that I bet take longer to materialise. Nevertheless, I had made a couple of friends before I had even realised it myself. Human relationships are mysterious after all, for example, I couldn't pinpoint exactly when I and Shibata started being friends.
"Yeah, I and Shibata get on fairly well."
"I see. Anyone else you consider a friend?"
"You?"
"No."
"Thought so," I said sighing heavily.
Looks like Himeno was still as cold as ever towards me. I'll probably never be able to make friends with her. I don't have the patience for something like that. I certainly wouldn't want someone like Himeno to be my girlfriend. I'd like a kinder, more lady-like girl, like Amikura or Ichinose.
For the third period, Hoshinomiya-sensei skipped into the classroom as cheerful as ever. The class quietened down and prepared for her lesson.
"Hey, guys and girls! Today's lesson will be quite important, so make sure you all pay close attention~."
The class noticeably straightened up when she said this. Although Hoshinomiya-sensei was rather aloof and easy-going, the class seemed to understand when she was being serious.
"What do you mean, Chie-chan-sensei?"
The whole class except for Terumento of course. Looks like he's given her a cute pet name as well.
"It's almost the end of the month, so we're going to do a short test. People at the front, please take one and pass these up to the people at the back."
