Remi bounces on his heels as he watches the magnolia tree outside of the school gates wave in the wind. You had promised you would meet him after you had a talk with Ren. Remi secretly doesn't like that Ren is even near you, but that's ok, because you are going to ride the bus with him. At least he hopes, and he would honestly be willing to walk with you all the way back. He reaches into his pocket and fiddles with the tube of chapstick he may or may not have forgotten to give back to you. He doesn't dare to take it out, just in case someone decided to snatch it or a bird came by and- well that's just paranoid. Remi scolds himself, tapping his cheek lightly. He used to do it a lot harder, leaving marks to add to the viscous scrapings of other people. At least, that was before he met you. But now...well he wants you to look at his face and see something handsome. Or pretty, he really doesn't care which adjective you use, as long as you see him as something other than what he feels himself to be. Anything but the weak, puny, slimy, shameful boy he believed himself to be. But how can a vile freak like him be even near you? His logic follows, he can't. So maybe, just maybe, he isn't as horribly repulsive as he thought. Maybe.

--------------

Ren's mind races as you skeptically look at him. How could a little nickname set her off like this? He berates himself for making you feel uncomfortable. In his mind, maybe you had a bad experience with a nickname like that. Ren doesn't even ponder, or fathom the possibility that you could know what a gang is, let alone be in one. To him, you are a pure angel, to be protected and loved at all costs.

But you know better. You are hardly a nice person, let alone a pure one. You have made weapons that have killed multitudes of people, and even had fun doing it. But even worse than being a second-hand murderer, you are a coward.

The man snivels below you, the dark forest around you constantly cooing with the night sounds. Snot runs down his nose, dripping into his pleading mouth. He squirms within the restraints, rustling the forest floor. You loom over him, with a simple weapon in hand. You shakily raise the gun.

"Go on, kiddo. Just do it." the smooth, deep, soothing voice of Boss trickles into your ear. His warm and kind hands steady your shaking shoulders. Everything is buzzing, whirring, blurring.

"Make him pay."

"Y/n?" Ren says, jolting you from spiraling into memories.

"Yeah? What did you want to talk about?" you say, recollecting yourself. Ren bites the inside of his cheek, shifting from foot to foot, a shocking change from his usually confident demeanor.

"I just wanted to apologize for making you uncomfortable earlier, at uhm- Olives' house."

"It's fi-" the apology is half out our mouth when Ren shakes his head.

"It's not. I made you uncomfortable, and- and-" he stammers.

"You matter too much to me for me to accept that." he blurts, his face a peony pink. Damn he's a good actor. You think, reflecting back on what Lilren told you.

You take a deep breath, "It's genuinely forgiven." you reply. Ren nods, turning his red face aside. She's the one who is supposed to be getting flustered... he mentally giggles, as he has always found his infatuation with you to be a source of serotonin. "You mean a lot to me as well," you say, the lie tasting sweet on your tongue.
