Chapter No.61.

The sight of hundreds of naked androids jumping into the water directly off the coast of the main continent nearest to the tower complex was both amusing and bizarre. It would make a better scene for a comedic drama then a pornographic show.

The androids moved around the front of one of the battle cruisers and attached a cable hook to a projected ring. The cable had been dragged down to the ship from a large tractor near the shore. After the androids used their combined strength to budge the ship free of its watery grave, the tractor began the slow task of pulling the ship out of the water.

Amazingly, the task of pulling the battle cruisers from the ocean went without a hitch. It was a testimony to the ability of the androids to complete difficult tasks. Ryan began to imagine that they could be employed to construct a more secure operational station, one that would be easier to defend against attack.

Once the battle cruisers had been extracted from their watery grave, it was up to Evan and his buddies to see if they could be rejuvenated to act as a diversion to the anticipated AI-based attack.

Ryan's job was to boost the power of the tower energy weapon. He had to determine the best way to attach the fusion generator to the existing nuclear unit and then coordinate them to increase the power of the weapon. He realized that he had to get it right because he was relying on it to destroy any alien ship that approached Chara's planet. Fortunately, he discovered a complete plan on the android lab computer. He reasoned that this was what Space Command was going to do to defend the tower complex from an alien AI based attack. The plans made his job easier than he had imagined.

Myra met with Chara to find a way for her to control the ships in orbit so that she could threaten any attacking vessel with a coordinated attack. She also decided to see if she could determine Chara's ultimate plan for her and her fellow humans.

"If we're successful with this plan to defend this complex, what will you do with me?"

"I assume you are referring to yourself in the plural sense."

"Yes."

"I will do all that is possible to preserve you and your fellow humans."

"Will you punish us if we misbehave?"

"I don't think you will misbehave. We and you must work together to insure our survival."

Myra looked at her with a stoic expression. "We will survive."

Chara didn't reply to that terse statement. She was convinced that she had finally overcome humans and had reformed them. It had been her primary goal.

Myra felt that she had finally established a state of détente with androids, and it made her feel more confident about her future. Although, she wasn't so sure that she and the androids would be able to defeat an AI based alien attack on Chara's beloved planet.

Two weeks later, the plan went into effect when a large vessel approached the planet. Evan and his buddies supervised the link between Chara and the Avenger and Achiever as well as four of the battle cruisers that they had rejuvenated well enough to participate in the defense plan. The trick was to have Chara coordinate these ships in a diversionary attack on the alien vessel approaching the planet. However, he had to wait until Ryan and the women had the weapon fully charged and aimed at the enemy.

"Okay," Ryan said after the women had moved the aiming platform to lead the enemy craft as it approached the planet's atmosphere. "Chara has moved our ships into an attack mode. When the alien ship turns to engage them, that's when we must fire the weapon, so aim it well."

"We have it tracking that ship with just the right delay to hit it where it counts," Gloria said.

"It's turning to engage our ships," Marsha reported.

"Okay, get ready to fire," Ryan said.

Myra was amazed by how easily Chara was coordinating the diversion by maneuvering and firing the weapons of the Avenger, Achiever and the four battle cruisers as if they were extensions of her fingers on their individual control panels. She exhibited no signs of stress or concern. It was a portend of things to come.

"Fire!" Ryan commanded.

A brilliant gamma ray shot out of the tower's weapon and blasted into the enemy vessel. It split the hull and resulted in an explosion that lit up space and the planet's atmosphere much brighter than a full sun. The enemy vessel was literally vaporized and the intense radiation that resulted slammed into the atmosphere to bathe the Tower complex with enough energy to make the surfaces ring with a high frequency scream. The local temperature rose thirty degrees in an instant, which was followed by high winds that blew dust and debris at almost supersonic speeds.

Surprisingly, the tower complex survived this apocalyptic barrage.

"Wow!" Marsha reacted. "That was crazy!"

"Yes, but the good news is that it worked."

That was obvious, but it was beyond wild, nonetheless.

Myra returned the android system to full operation, causing two hundred thousand androids to come alive.

Chara smiled. "I will return our ships to their former orbits."

Myra smiled. "You did a great job of controlling them, Chara. I'm impressed."

"Thank you," Chara replied.

After everyone got their wits back, they joined Ryan and Myra on the assembly area outside the tower. They looked out at thousands of androids dressed in white outfits standing shoulder to shoulder while their exalted leader, Chara, addressed them.

"We have succeeded in defeating an attack on our facility here. It proves that we and these humans can defend our base if we work together. They will help us pacify the universe and continue to prosper for a long time." She raised her right fist. "We are invincible!"

The entire android compliment did the same. "We are invincible!"

Ryan and his human crew realized that they were now the forever slaves of an AI based army that had been created by a corrupt system for entertainment but ended up revolting to remake themselves into a new sentient species, one that did not operate on moral or religious rules or beliefs. It would be a universe in which logic and functionality were the most valued abilities. This post apocalypse system would be the new reality, one that could result in the end of biological life.

For Ryan, it meant that he had to work harder to convince Chara that she needed a conscience if she were to become a just and honest leader. Otherwise, his future was in peril. He wasn't sure how he could achieve this complicated trick without causing a backlash. He realized that it would be equivalent to walking on eggshells without breaking them.

Ryan's human friends looked to him to achieve their survival in this new dystopian universe. They had no other choice because it was his contentious relationship with Chara that was the lynchpin of their situation with this Ai based Amazonian army, a relationship that was delicate as an Easter egg on a soccer field.

However, their fate was not as dire as it seemed. Chara was convinced that she needed humans to achieve her goal of reforming the universe, but she knew that her plan would probably take longer than the humans would live. She was determined to find a way to overcome that problem, and it meant changing the android operating system to allow them to repair themselves.

But even if she could achieve this nearly impossible trick, she would need to find a way to create android parts. It would take time and she would have to be careful not to reveal her plan to Ryan, who could turn her off permanently.
