Three weeks later
We haven't heard from Natalie since that day in the parking lot. Shortly after Levi ordered a restraining order against her, she vanished from off the face of the earth all over again.Instead of spending everyday looking over our shoulder and waiting for her return, we decided to simply move on. And that should she make a reappearance- we will be ready for her.
"Lemonade?" Haley offered.
Nodding, I took the glass of ice cold lemonade from her hand. Taking a sip of the fresh beverage, I released a content sigh as the cool liquid traveled down my throat.
Haley took the open seat on the lounge chair beside me, a glass of lemonade in her hand. "Still no news from Natalie?"
"No, thank God," I told her.
Police have been working hard to track her down since they found traces of her DNA in Declan's room. I kept telling Levi that once she's arrested and placed behind bars we won't have anything to worry about. But he remains on edge.
"How's Declan been dealing with it all?"
"Truthfully, I don't know. His therapy sessions have been going well. And strangely enough, the nightmares have stopped. He hasn't spoken a word since that day, but his speech therapist believes he will talk again."
"Well that's good to hear. He's such a strong boy."
He really is.
Smiling, I watched from my seat as Declan happily played and splashed around in the pool with Paxton, Everett and Haley's oldest son.
Even though we were given the okay to return back to Levi's house a few days ago, I've been coming by not only so Declan could see his cousins and take his mind off the craziness of his mother's return, but so I could spend time with Haley. We've become quite close in those few weeks during our stay here.
As for Everett, not so much. We'd exchange a few words here and there, but that's about it. I thought maybe he hated me for sleeping with his best friend. But after speaking with Levi, it's clear now that he's just being cautious and protective of his heart. Which is understandable. I was the same way with Ivy when she first started dating Beau.
My phone buzzed, my phone screen lighting up. My heart did a flip at seeing that it was a message from Levi.
Levi: Just got off work. Are we still on for tonight?
Despite the little incident with Natalie, things are going strong between me and Levi. Our relationship, which still does not have a label, is growing.
Me: Yes. Are you finally going to tell me where you're taking me, so I can dress accordingly?
We would've gone on this date weeks ago if it hadn't been for a certain bitch deciding to wreak havoc upon her return.
I think this date will be good for us. It will allow us to explore a different kind of intimacy. One that doesn't necessarily involve the act of sex.
And hopefully, I will no longer feel like such a mistress in our label-less relationship.
Levi: No.
Me: So you don't care if I wear sweats?
Levi: It doesn't matter what you wear, because you won't be wearing it for very long.
Now I was really curious to know where we were going. My dirty mind immediately thought it would be involving some filthy, filthy sex. And knowing Levi and his high sex drive, that's probably what he has planned for us tonight.
