1996 —꒰꒰ ❝ L/N Y/N AS THE HIGHEST HONOR STUDENT!❞ THE TEACHERS AND STAFF CLAPPED FOR THE GIRL. All the other kids stared at her in awe as she took her certificate and medal "L/n-san is so cool!" they cheered.
On the other hand, 2nd honor Yuzuha Shiba slumped on her seat with furrowed brows and a frown. She glared daggers at the girl, obviously envious of her. She felt a pinch on her shoulder-- it was her older brother, Taiju Shiba "Don't slouch." he tells her.
He was obviously disappointed in her and Yuzuha hated the way he looked at her. He wasn't her parent, to begin with, so why the hell should he be disappointed?
"Let's go home." he grabs her arm and forced her outside, dragging her "You're only embarrassing yourself at this point."
"Taiju-nii, it hurts!! Let go!!" she winced.
"You couldn't do any better than that L/n? Do you have any idea how insulting it is that you lost to someone like her?"
"I'm sorry, Taiju-nii!!"
"Sorry won't cut it! From now on, you won't have a meal unless you get a perfect score on every test, assignment, or project. Be grateful I'm putting you in summer school so that you don't get behind!"
Not long after their mother's death and their father's absence, Taiju's abuse started and it got worse over time. Yuzuha tries her best to protect her younger brother, Hakkai.
She always tried her very best. But somehow, Y/n would always be better than her.
She couldn't count the nights she would cry, begging in prayer for her father to come home or even a sign from her deceased mother.
A new school year came, and Taiju had high hopes for her, seeing her work so hard and get the highest scores during summer school. Yuzuha was surprised to see Y/n in the same class as her. In the end, Y/n would still be on her throne, Yuzuha only standing below her.
She ended up competing against her in every grade they were in-- even if Y/n didn't even know about her jealousy and hatred. Yuzuha was determined to top her, to get higher and better grades than her.
If she could curse someone, she'd curse her with no hesitation.
Yuzuha wanted the praise and the glory of being number one. She wanted Taiju to stop pressuring her, but even after he left during her 8th grade, she still went against Y/n as her own decision.
Hakkai even begged her to stop pressuring herself.
One time, she heard that Y/n was amazing at Kyudo, the Japanese martial art of archery, and is a Kyudoka-- a professional. So Yuzuha joined the Kyudo Club and became the head of the club.
The two competed during the school sports festival. Perfect as always, Y/n won against her.
Most of their classmates thought it was just a harmless competition, but Yuzuha practically dedicated her life to being better than Y/n.
Now, entering 12th Grade, Yuzuha was sure that this was the last school year she has with Y/n. She needed to be serious this time. She needed to beat her...
2008. Yuzuha takes a deep breath before entering the school premises, almost immediately being greeted by the all-girls Shiba Fanclub. They welcomed her with a large banner WELCOME BACK, SHIBA-SAN!! it said.
They all bowed their heads at her and she softly smiled back "Thanks for the welcome. Tell your president that as well."
"YES!"
Just then, all of the other students stopped and looked at the girl walking into the school hall, the perfect Y/n herself. She never failed to amaze them with every little thing she does. This irritated Yuzuha and she turns to her Fanclub "Hey, how about you all eat lunch with me?"
The girls all squealed and said yes in unison.
Yuzuha excused herself and proceeded to walk to the bulletin board, finding her name and what class she was in. No surprise to her, Y/n's her classmate... yet again...
"Ah, look... it's Y/n-san!" one whisper-yelled. They cleared the way so that she could find her name. Y/n turns to Yuzuha "Same section, Shiba?"
"Yeah." she rolls her eyes and left. Even a word out of her mouth irritated her. Yuzuha was determined to stay focused, not letting Y/n under her skin.
While Yuzuha's taking everything too seriously, there's Y/n L/n-- the star student, the effortlessly perfect woman. Though she does have her flaws, Yuzuha just doesn't see them.
One of them being-
"She rolled her eyes at me." Y/n held her face with both of her hands "Ah, my cheeks are burning..."
"Jeez. She just rolled her eyes!" Yasuda, a member of the Home Economics club, drags her away from the board "Okay, senpai, what're your plans for this school year?"
"To get Shiba-san to fall in love with me~"
"No!" she groans "Senpai, this is your last school year until you have to go to college."
"Exactly! What if I and Shiba-san won't be in the same college? I need to make her fall in love with me, or maybe realize that I have a crush on her..." she held both of her hands.
"I suddenly forgot why I look up to you..." Yasuda deadpans,
Y/n laughs "I'm kidding! I wanna give the others a chance since I impressed Shiba-san enough. Maybe one of the 7th graders will continue my legacy..." she smiles "Besides. My mom always said; School first before flirting."
"In that case," Yasuda hooks her arm with her's "You won't have time to make Shiba fall for you..."
"That's why I wanna juggle school with my romantic endeavors!" Y/n stared at the blue sky, taking in the fresh cold air "I'm finally ready."
"You better not back out this time, Senpai!"
"You better ask Peh-yan out if I manage to sweep Shiba-san off her feet this year."
"F-Fine!"
She checks her watch; they had one hour before the school assembly starts. They move to the school fields, with more classrooms reused for club activities. They walked through the grassy field and entered the cleanest one.
Dozens of girls rose from their seats and bowed their heads "Good morning, Club President!" they all said in unison.
"The welcome committee girls are still in the halls." one informs her.
"That's alright." Y/n smiles "Let's begin this school year's first Yuzuha Shiba fan club meeting!"
