Maybe I did like Eric Karter, but what I didn't expect was to wake up to a text from him.
Unknown: Hey Finley Martin :)
Finley: who is this?
Unknown: Your revenge fuck
Finley: well good morning eric
Eric: I'm outside
I turn to my window and look out of the blinds and sure enough, Eric's truck is in my driveway. I throw the blanket off of me and walk outside, meeting Eric who is now leaning on the front of the truck. "Cute outfit. Ooh and your hair?! Gorgeous," he says with a smirk pasted across his lips.
"Shut up, I just woke up. Why are you here?" I say, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. He pushes off the truck, causing him to grow taller than me. "I'm taking you out." "What? Look at me," I gesture to my body. "Do I look like I'm ready to be taken out?" Eric grins and shakes his head, "Well, no. But that's why I'm going to give you time to get ready." I groan and turn around to walk back inside. But I turn back when I don't hear Eric following me. "Are you coming inside or staying out here?" His grin grows twenty times larger as he practically skips into the house.
"Hello Mr. Martin," He greets my father with a hug. "And you're Mrs. Martin I presume?" He says offering his hand, but my mom brings him in for a hug. "Nice to meet you, I'd assume you're Eric? Finley speaks fondly of you," She gestures her hand towards me. "No I don't," I turn around and start walking to the bathroom. "I'm going to shower, don't embarrass me please." I widen my eyes at my parents.
About twenty minutes and probably a few embarrassing stories later, I'm dressed and ready to leave. My parents don't know anything about boundaries so they tell anyone about anything from my first period to my last boyfriend.
"I'm ready, let's go," I take Eric's hand and drag him away from my parents. "But they were just about to tell me about your ex-boyfriend Elliot," He raises his eyebrows a few times like it's some juicy gossip. "He isnt my ex now lets go," I see Eric's face show some disappointment but he hides it with a cheesy smile.
While we are sat in Eric's truck, he starts the engine but doesnt pull out of the driveway. "What did you mean he isnt your ex? Elliot," He is sitting with his hands clasped in his lap, watching himself twiddle his thumbs. "Well we never really broke up, uhm," I pause because I've never truly spoken to anyone about what happened. It's a small town so everyone already knew. "Eric, he died. Two years ago. He was hit by a drunk driver." Now I'm the one staring at my lap and I can feel Eric's eyes burning holes into the side of my head. "Finley I'm so sorry," He puts his hand on top of my restless hands. "No, don't be," I force a chuckle. "It was so long ago, it's alright now. Let's go," I look up at him and smile in which he returns a forced one.
___
We've been driving for almost an hour, conversing about nothing in particular when I realize I have no clue where we are going. "Eric," I pull his attention from the road. "Where are you taking me?" He smiles and turns his attention back to the empty road. "Hello?" I have my hand side to side next to his face. "Ever heard of a surprise, Martin?" I roll my eyes at the nickname he branded me with. "Don't call me that," I mumble as I turn to look out of my window when I'm met with the view of the bright blue ocean. "The beach? I don't even have a bathing suit, or towels," Eric lets out a laugh at my realization. "I have your bathing suit in the back seat, and towels," He leans his head to the side to look at me.
I roll my eyes again as Eric pulls into the parking lot in front of the beach. He walks over to the passenger door and hands me my bathing suit. "There's bathrooms this way, c'mon," he holds out my suit that I snatch out of his hand, which he keeps out wanting me to hold. I smack his hand away, with that my foot slips and my ass is quickly met with the hot concrete. Eric starts laughing uncontrollably but immediately stops when his eyes meet my glare. He holds out his hand again, which I take this time. Once I'm upright again, I let go of his hand and storm off to the bathroom.
It smells like shit and sweat in here and half of the stall doors are broken off. I'm scared if I touch anything I'll get some sort of disease. I find a stall with a door, being very careful not to touch anything.
Once I'm changed I walk out to find Eric waiting, leaned up against the concrete wall. "Okay, I'm ready. Again," I grab his shoulder to turn him. When he turns around he eyes me up and down, stopping at my shorts. "Why are you wearing those?" He points at the distressed denim. "Because, I don't want people staring at me," I say as I stare at the ground. "I'm gonna stare anyway," Eric shrugs and starts walking towards the water as I let out a huff at his comment.
When we reach the sand, I start pulling off my shoes and shorts so I can enjoy the water. Eric lays down our towels, using rocks at their corners to make sure they don't fly away. I walk just far enough into the water where it meets my waist when I feel arms wrap around me and lift me into the air. My legs flail around as I was thrown into the air. The impact of the water makes my back sting. I stand up and begin to yell at Eric when something slimy wraps around my ankle. I scream as I look down, only to realize it's just seaweed.
I see a smile appear on Eric's mouth as I start to walk past him to get out of the water. "Dont you dare fucking laugh at me," I point at him. He grabs my arm, "Come on, it was funny. Don't be a grouch," his body lifts up as a wave passes by. When I know he's off the ground, I kick his feet from under him, causing him to go underwater. When he comes back up his hair is covering his eyes and there is not a smile to be found except for on my face. With a laugh, I return his remark back to him. "Come on Eric, don't be a grouch."
He picks me up again, both of us laughing as he takes us deeper into the water. The deep water becomes shallow as we reach a sandbank. Eric lifts and throws me into the water again, emitting a scream from me. When I come back up, Eric has gone back into the deeper part of the water. I swim to him and he pulls me to him. I wrap my legs around him so I don't float away. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I raise an eyebrow at him which he returns a smile to. "Nothing," He grins, showing me almost all of his teeth.
"Why did you agree to come with me today?" He asks as a wave passes us by. "Well, you kind of just showed up. I didn't think I really had a choice," I look down at the water. "Finley," He grabs my chin and tilts my head so I'm looking at him again. "I'd never make you do something you didn't want to do." And with that, I can feel myself pulled to him. My hand finds the back of his head, pulling it to mine. He cups my jaw as our lips meet and I haven't felt this happy since Elliot.
