"I'm sure this is the craziest day on work that I've ever had",mom said as she opened the door.
"Oh, hey",I said. "Why?"
"Well, that Lucius kid is so crazy. Let me explain. So we came into my cabinet and sat down. I welcomed Lucius and Klara, his mother and told them how the meeting was going to work. I told them I was going to ask them questions, first Lucius and then Klara. I started off with telling Lucius my name, why we are meeting each other and things like that. I told him that his mother seems worried for him, and that I'd like to help. Then I started asking Lucius normal questions about his life, his interests, his friends and family. That was when he turned insane."
Mom went quiet. I looked at her.
"I only asked him if he had a hobby or an interest and he said it was...bullying adults who don't allow him to be "himself"."
Mother looked down. She seemed to be very disappointed.
"He slapped me and called me a bad word."
"Oh,"I said.
I didn't know what I was supposed to do, laugh or cry.
"I am...very sorry for you, mother."
"It's ok,"she said, quietly. I'm fine now.
We hugged.
"Well, I think I need to go now, mom" I said as I started to walk to the stairs. But then, she suddenly pulled her hand out and said:
"Fixe, wait."
I stopped.
"Huh?"
"I..."mom stared at me with a worried look. I have something to ask you.
"Yeah?"
"Well...Fixe, do you like your father?"
I went quiet. Why would she ask me that? Did something happen?
"I mean, he's a nice guy, I guess! He takes care of me, he has a great personality and sense of humor, so yeah, I like him! As long as he lets me play enough Fortnite."
Mom giggled.
"I love how much you care about that game, hahah. But you need to make sure not to get addicted."
"Yeah, yeah. Anyways, why are you asking me?"
"Never mind",she said. It's nothing.
"Alright",I said. "Just telling you, you're suspicious."
"Suspicious? Hahaha. I like your attitude so much, Fixe."
"Ugh, mom. You're up to something, right?"
"Fixe, listen",she said and looked me in the eyes. "I'll tell you later. You can go to your room now."
"Whatever."
I walked upstairs to my room. My phone was laying on the table next to my gaming setup. I took the phone, sat down and started texting Lilja. "Hey, sweetheart. I need to tell you something." "Go on..." "I need your help in school tomorrow. Cuz mom's probably up to something. She asked me if I like dad, and it was obvious that she's hiding something. I'll tell you more in school." "Oh, that sounds suspicious. See you in school so we can figure it out :)" I put my phone back on the table and turned on the computer. It was finally time to play with Alexander. So I played Fortnite until it got dark, and then went downstairs to eat dinner with mom and dad. I sat down at the table. We usually talk a lot at the table but this time was so awkward... in the start, no one said anything and everyone were quiet. But my dad looked at us with a confused face. When mom started chewing her food, he asked:
"Uhh, hey, why don't we say anything..?"
Mom smiled and said:
"Oh, yeah, I was just thinking. Sorry for that."
That sounded really, really suspicious. I opened my mouth and said:
"Thinking? Mom, you've been suspicious today."
Dad looked at me with a very confused look.
"Fixe? What do you mean?"
"I don't know it myself",I said. "She's been asking me if I like you and wondering if I mean it, and she's been acting really weird in general. But don't worry about her, dad. Because now, she's going to tell us what today was about."
Mom looked angry and surprised at the same time. I went quiet.
"Right, mom?"
"Fixe, haven't you learnt that adults have their own personal things that they don't want children to know about? There's a lot of stuff in our world that you aren't supposed to be knowing about until you're eighteen."
"Whatever. But remember that you promised me you would tell me about it", I said.
Mom just looked at the food with an irritated look.
"Nice salad, by the way",dad said.
We all ate our dinner quietly and didn't say anything. I went upstairs and continued playing. A special event appeared this evening, so I played for very long and explored the new colorful map. I got so tired and forgot about everything. I didn't even brush my teeth. So I forgot about talking to mom too. I laid down and fell asleep immediately. I had a very good sleep. When I woke up, I got out of my room. No one was awake. I checked my phone. 05:49. It was very early. I decided to sleep more, but I didn't feel sleepy at all. So I just started doing push-ups on my new Fortnite-themed yoga carpet. Because when I grow up, I want to become a strong boy. For Lilja. She always tells me that she doesn't pick guys based on bodies and looks, and that it doesn't matter how I look like, because she'll always be my lovely girlfriend. But I don't think she realizes why I like working out so much. It's not because I want to change the way my body looks or get stronger. I don't really care about that, as long as the body I have now stays with me. It's because it's good for the body and for our mental health. It makes us happy. It can always cheer us up. So that's why I'm doing it. I want Lilja to have the best boyfriend anyone can ever have. I want to be happy, because happiness makes people happy. I want to share my happiness with her so we both stay happy forever. When I was done with the push-ups, I ate some ice cream and turned the tv on. I watched other people's reactions to the new Fortnite event, and afterwards some videos from my idol, Pontus Rasmusson. It still wasn't time to go to school, but I got really bored, so I ate breakfast, brushed my teeth and went earlier. When I arrived, I saw Lilja looking at her phone.
"Lilja!"I said.
"Hi! So...what did you want to say about your mom?"
"Yeah, so, I came back from school yesterday and mom told me about a boy she met yesterday who was...crazy. But that doesn't really matter right now. I was on my way to go upstairs when she suddenly asked me if I liked dad. She seemed worried."
"I see,"Lilja said.
"I think I know why. Um...I'm sorry to say this, but...that's the most common thing parents say before...getting divorced. They ask the kid if they like the parent that they probably don't love anymore, because they want to know if the kid is comfortable with the divorce. So I'm pretty sure your mom doesn't love your dad that much. We don't know why yet but, yeah. She's probably ashamed to tell you about it because she wants you to be happy and live with the ones you love, not with the ones she loves. Did something else happen? The more information we get, the easier it will be to figure it out."
"Yeah, so, she said she promised me to tell about it soon, but she still haven't. When we ate dinner yesterday, she was quiet. She normally talks with us at the table about her job and life, but yesterday she didn't say anything. And she seemed extremely angry when I told dad how suspicious she's been. She told me that adults have their own personal things that I shouldn't know about until I'm eighteen and mature enough to understand. Then we just kept eating quietly."
"So she got angry when you told dad about how she acted. That must mean she doesn't want him to know about it. And she normally talks about her job and life. If she was quiet about it, something's probably happened at her job and in her life. Something that's not good. So, just because I'm saying this doesn't mean it's true, this is only what I'm suspecting. But... something has probably happened at your mom's job that made her have something against her husband. We don't know what it is, but she promised you she would tell you, and that means she should."
"Lilja, you're so smart. Thank you so much for the help! But I'm still wondering... why would my mom suddenly get so mad at dad? Did he like...do something? And if he wasn't at her job, why would she get angry at him when he probably wasn't in the situation at her job?"
"We don't know where he was or what happened. We don't even know if something happened or not. I hope she tells you soon."
"Yeah, me too. I mean, she said herself that she will tell me something, so it's obvious that she has something to say."
"Let's go to class."
"Yeah, we're late."

We just kept having different lessons, like always, but I couldn't stop thinking about mom. What could she be hiding from me? And dad? Does she really not... love him anymore? But she did the day before. At least it looked like it. But I don't think love could disappear this...easily. Like, I don't think it works like that. At first she loved him, then something happened at her job, and then she didn't love him anymore. How is that possible? I really wonder what it is. What mom actually is hiding. I'm just worried about her. She looked scared. Like she thought what she wants to say would break me. But she's always been telling me how strong and brave I am, and that I'm an amazing son! If she really thinks so, why doesn't she tell me if she knows that I am a brave son? I have listened to a lot of different people's stories. My own girlfriend has been bullied horribly, but I saved her! My class thinks I'm a weird guy, but I don't care! Because I'm self confident, and I like myself! Even though they don't think I'm good, I know I am good, because I don't listen to them! I'm very brave. So if she knows that I am, why would she not tell me? My thoughts continued the whole day. When school was over, I was talking to Lilja again.
"I know she's going to tell me soon, but I really want to know. Because there's a chance she will lie to me",I said.
"Hm."
"Listen, Lilja. You like detectives, don't you? Is there something I can do to find out the truth about my mom? Like a detective?"
"As a person who is interested in such stuff, I can say one thing. The first step to find out something about someone is to look through their electronic devices. Phones, computers and other stuff,"Lilja answered. "It's pretty disrespectful, though."
"Lilja, you're a genius! I said while holding my hand up in the air. I'm lucky, because I think I know the passcode to her phone, too! I played games on her phone when I was younger."
"That's good. I need to hurry now,"Lilja said. "Goodbye!"
"Bye bye!"
I waved to her, put my backpack on and started walking home. I felt exited but dumb at the same time. Sneaking into other's phones is bad. But I think I need to do it. She's my mom. I want to know what's happening. It took me around fifteen minutes to get home. Mom didn't work today. She didn't have anyone to meet. I came up to the door, picked up my keys and opened it. I took off my shoes and went into the living room to see if mom's phone or computer was there.
