I wake up, but don't get out of bed. Mel brings me breakfast, but I don't eat it. I haven't eaten anything for a day and a half. At about 10:45 a.m. Mel drags me out of bed and takes me to the barn. when we enter, I see Dakota with a ribbon on his halter.
"He's your lease horse now. Do you like him?" Mel asks me. I slowly walk towards him and nod.
He nickers lightly at me. I rub his forehead, then hug him. I love him so much. nobody could replace him.
I lead him into the round ring to do some work with him. After a while, I grab a pad and a saddle and put them on his back. I also put in a western bridle. I put one foot in the stirrup, then swing myself onto his back.
He seem a bit startled, but doesn't take off. I stroke his long, overgrown mane. He's such a good boy, even if nobody else can see that.
"Good boy, Dakota." I coo, "Let's walk."
I give him a little squeeze and we walk around the ring. Soon I squeeze him into a trot. His trot is very bouncy and too fast, but I don't care. I can't believe that I even got this far with him.
Best day ever.
