Of course, it had to happen.

As soon as Lu Xiaofeng had gotten comfortable in his room, comfortable in his bed, a quiet creaking of the door signaled an intruder. The intruder seemed to be walking toe to heel, in an attempt to silence his steps toward the supposedly-sleeping body.

He kept his eyes shut as he continued to lay still on his back, waiting for the right moment to come.

Suddenly, an odd scent flowed into his nose. Medication of some kind, maybe. Based on its terrible scent, it may have been strong enough to completely incapacitate him for a few moments, or even longer.

His eyes opened as his hand shot upwards, grabbing the intruder's arm. "It's you," he recognized the servant who had led him and Hua Manlou to their rooms. "Why are you trying to ambush me?"

No answer. "I said, 'why are you trying to ambush me?'"

Again, no answer to his question. In frustration, Lu Xiaofeng dragged him outside of his room, pulling the small bottle of potential poison from the servant's hands before pushing him against the railing that was present outside of his door. "Answer me, or I won't hesitate to —!"

It was a subtle sound, but clear to his trained ears: a deep clearing of a man's throat. Out of the corner of his eye, Lu Xiaofeng immediately recognized the man that had arrived. "Uncle Hua," he greeted, releasing the servant and handing the bottle of medicine back. However, there was one additional person that had arrived.

He knew of him but had never met him. "Miraculous doctor Physician Song," he recognized in slight awe, clasping his hands together in respect. "I didn't realize this had been planned by the both of you. Is there something I should know?"

"Yes, but this isn't a good place to talk," Hua Ruling said. "Please, come with me to a much more suitable place."

Lu Xiaofeng agreed, following Hua Ruling into the main public section of the manor. All seven leaders of the main sects stood from their seats respectfully as he walked into one of the rooms, having already gathered ahead of time. He could only wonder how long they had been there waiting for him, but he hoped not for too long of an inconvenience. "All seven of the main leaders are here," he said in surprise, eyes drawn to Chief Jiang in particular. "And Chief Jiang Qing of Beggar Sect, too."

"Master Lu, it's good to see you again," she acknowledged with an exhausted smile.

It was such a heavy coincidence. But she must have known about the banquet months ago; why hadn't she told them she would be attending when they all had first met at the restaurant? And how long had she not slept well? As a sect leader, it was crucial that her strength was at its peak at all times.

The leader of the Kunlun sect, Long Fei, laughed in amusement at Lu Xiaofeng's surprise, wagging a finger at him playfully. "I bet you didn't expect this at all, did you?" he asked, before following the direction of Lu Xiaofeng's focus. "Oh? You... And her? Dream on, buddy! She's beautiful, but none of us would ever have a chance with her!"
