"I just can't believe it," Tony mumbled to Bruce, arms crossed as he shook his head at the sight.
"What? I think they're cute together," Bruce chuckled, only glancing up from his paperwork for a moment.
They continued to watch as you strolled past the expansive windows, hand in hand with Dr. Stephen Strange, or "Doc" as you referred to him. He had gotten a bit too hot headed, as usual, and you insisted that he take a stroll though the compound gardens with you to calm down. The billionaire couldn't seem to understand how you, the sunniest, brightest, always smiling Avenger could be with someone so grim and gloomy all the time.
"He's going to corrupt her," Tony frowned.
Bruce rolled his eyes. "She can handle herself. You're her older brother, stop acting like her father."
"I have every right to be concerned!" Tony argued. "When mom and dad died it became my responsibility to look after her and now I've let her fall into the arms of a much older, and potentially very dangerous, man."
"She's only eight years younger than him, you know. And you're acting like he's a villain or something. Just because he has powers doesn't mean he would use them to hurt her," Bruce explained, trying as always to be the level head of the science duo.
Tony turned to him, eyeing him skeptically. "Why do you care so much?"
Bruce sighed. "Y/N's always been the happiest and bubbliest out of all of us, but I've never seen her this happy. He does that, Tony. So whatever she sees in him must mean something."
Tony swallowed, turning his gaze back to the window. He let Bruce's words sit with him as he watched you pick a flower from one of the carefully tended bushes, leaning up to put it gently behind the doctor's ear. He could tell you were giggling from your wide smile and gentle shake of your shoulders, and he expected the doctor to grimace or immediately remove it.
But he didn't.
Unaware that the two of you were being watched through the compound's one way glass, the doctor gave you the softest smile. The simple facial expression was so full of affection that Tony nearly had to look away, feeling as though he was accidentally witnessing a much more intimate moment of his sister's than it was in reality.
Maybe Bruce was right?
Tony and Bruce spent the rest of the day in the labs, while you and Stephen returned inside for training with some of the others.
"Ah, shoot, Nat's gone on mission," you pouted, entering one of the compound's expansive, sleek combat training rooms.
"I'll spar with you today, kid," Cap said, clapping you on the shoulder.
"Really? You'll have to go easy on me, I'm no super soldier," you joked, thanking him for taking Nat's usual role as your partner.
You forgot for a moment about the 6 foot wizard still standing behind you. He had been on his way to his private practicing chamber, but stopped when he noticed the situation.
His large hand gently came to rest on your lower back as he moved to your side protectively, the warmth of it through your thin black tank top making you suppress a shudder.
"She can practice with me today, Mr. America," Stephen's baritone voice echoed in the room that was empty besides the three of you.
Cap cocked his head, the charming smile never leaving his lips. He crossed his arms, as if subconsciously accentuating his defined muscles. Obviously, you weren't affected by his masculine display, but you found it amusing nonetheless.
"Don't you usually train by yourself, Doctor?"
Stephen adjusted his stance, raising himself to his full height, nostrils beginning to flare. You never claimed he couldn't be a jealous man.
