At Gotham High School, teachers were teaching, lecturing, punishing, while the students were bored, sleeping, goofing around, or even relaxing.Normally this would be a regular day that Y/n would enjoy. As it's one of the only times he's still just a normal kid. However, right now he was currently grumpy. Upset at the Dark Knight.
He literally just dropped a bomb on me. Y/n complained in his head, as he was slouched over his desk. He just says, "I'm leaving, watch the kid."... I feel like a divorced mother.
He was now officially responsible for whatever happens in Gotham, with Batman going away. He already had enough responsibilities, he didn't need another.
To add on to the weight, he had to babysit his sidekick!? Ugh...
The bell rings and he heads over to the cafeteria. He was so tired and grumpy that he just grabbed a milk carton and a slice of pizza. He sat down at his usual seat and rubbed his forehead.
"Hey Y/n!" A familiar voice greeted the boy.
"Oh hey Barbara." He replied, with no second thought. Until a second later. "Oh! Barb! Hey!"
Ever since he's met the girl, he's been particularly happier than when he's with his usual friends from home. She's perky and very upbeat. He can't help but feel drawn to that. Little did he know, the feeling was mutual.
"Something on your mind?" She asked him, with a curious smile.
He sighed. "Well let's just say that I got a lot of work ahead of me, thanks to some jerk."
She smiled sympathetically. "You hate when that happens." He scoffed at that remark. "I get what you mean, given more work when you already have a lot on your plate. Which is ironic since you don't have so much on your tray."
He chuckles as he takes a bite of his pizza slice. "Look, if you're struggling with something, just ask for help. For example, me." She smirked, making him smile.
"Well, I guess it's just that things have been hard for since my dad..." He paused. Barbara saw the sign and placed her hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Y/n."
"It's okay, it's not your fault." He put his hand on her's. "Ever since then, I've been struggling. I don't really talk with my mom as much anymore, I have a messed up schedule now, I don't really focus on my homework anymore, and I don't spend as much time with my friends like I used to."
He looks down. "I guess, what I'm trying to say is... I'm lost. And I don't know what to do without him."
In hindsight, he was being brutally honest. He's got the whole superhero thing down and he's happy with his status. It's just his normal life, being Y/n L/n, is what's a struggle.
Whenever things he was struggling, or sad, or even afraid, his dad was always there for him. For his whole life he's always had his dad to comfort him. But he's gone. Even after a whole year, he's still barely getting by.
Barbara saw this just by looking into his eyes. She could see the conflict, the sadness, the struggle, the need for help. So she did what she thought would help, and she did.
She scooted closer to him and faced him towards her. Y/n was surprised by this sudden action and blushed a little. Before he could ask what she was doing, she pulled him in for a hug.
He was shocked, and flustered. The former because he was being hugged by someone he had known for just a few weeks. The latter because a girl was hugging him!
He didn't know what to say, so he just wrapped his arms around her, hugging her back. At that moment, he felt so calm. Relaxed. Like when his dad hugged him. Or his mom. Or even his best friend.
