Scarlett's POV

I tug on my jacket, wrapping it tighter around me to try and protect myself from the cold, to no avail. I feel a shiver run through me as I step onto the subway and try to find a spot. I sit down in the about the middle of the crowded, irritatingly loud subway. I take out my cellphone to change the song I was listening to. I've been feeling pretty down lately, so I blast my earbuds with soft, slow depressing melodies, trying to drown out all the unwanted noises coming from inside the subway.

I let out a sigh and look around. I see many different people but one in particular stands out. I see a boy, about my age, probably in high school, too, with short black hair, pale skin, and golden eyes, was staring at me from across the subway. Our eyes locked, and for some reason, I couldn't break my gaze from his. I felt my cheeks grow warm and I looked back down at my phone, changing the song.

All day, I had the image of his beautiful golden eyes in the back of my head. I spent my entire Friday thinking of him, wondering who he was, his name, his interests. This boy, who I saw for only a minute, has been stuck in my head all day.

I must be listening to too many love songs...

Matthew's POV

Dropping out of high school had been a terrible decision, but I just can't go to school and risk the lives of those innocent people. Sometimes I think I'm too nice. But he obviously wasn't nice to me when he bit me, I think bitterly.

I shake my head, trying desperately to rid that thought from my mind before I get angry and hurt someone. I walk onto the subway to clear my head.

Sure, I'm surrounded by lots of people here but I like the subway. I like to watch the people come and go and I try to make up stories for them. It gives me something to do.

I look around at everyone, studying their expressions, the way they act. I try to see into their minds, try to figure out what they're thinking or feeling. And I make up their own individual story.

You see, that woman sitting at the front with the blue scrubs on is married and has a job as a dental assistant. She's only about in her thirties but stresses of caring for a family of 5 have given her gray hair. She's worried that she might be laid off from her job though, with all the budget cuts and whatnot, they're firing lots of employees. Eh, that lady isn't very interesting.

I look around some more and see a guy a few aisles behind her in baggy jeans and a SnapBack. Oh teenagers and their strange trends... He is failing his classes because he just does not try. He thinks he's too cool for that. He loves to party though. He has a girlfriend but she means nothing to him. She is merely someone he can go to for sex when he's wasted. He's never been faithful to any of his girlfriends. He's cheating on his current one, of course.

I frowned... I can never have a girlfriend, I think solemnly to myself. I can't even go to my senior prom! Wait... Am I seriously thinking about a stupid prom?

Well, welcome to the wonderful life of being a vampire. Vampires can't do normal things like go to school or go out to restaurants or whatever. You really can't do ANYTHING but take the lives of innocent people. Frustrated, I clench my fists. I need to calm down...

Unless I decide to be like Edward Cullen from that stupid Twilight book and go to prom with Bella, who's got a broken leg and the worst acting skills ever. I chuckle softly to myself. Alright, I need to stop thinking so sappy.

So I look around again. That girl in the pink One Direction t-shirt likes boy bands and spends her time on social networking sites. She's pretty popular at school. Boring.

That guy is scene. He straightens his hair and has neon blue highlights. He puts on way too much eyeliner and wears band tees and skinny jeans. I guess that's the style nowadays..?
