“So this is a mall,” she looked confused.

“Sure it’s not huge like the other ones, but Mid-City Mall is technically a mall. Grocery store, thrift store- because I know Jim is cheap, library, movie theater.”

“I’m surprised it doesn’t have a bar in it.”

“It’s around there, on the side,” he pointed.

“Really,” her eyes were wide.

“Yeah, really. Those green eyes of yours, are really alluring.”

“Stop it,” she blushed, “how can you be so good to me, we just met.’

‘Ah dunno, I just like you, and I wear my heart on my sleeve sometimes.”

“Metaphor. You fall for people easy,” she said thoughtfully.

“It’s a weakness, sometimes, that’s gotten me hurt, been used, lied to,” he turned, lighting a cigarette.

She started to reach for him, drawing her hand to her chest, wanting to tell him the truth, suddenly another android walked by, looking at them both.

“Hello, good afternoon,” he spoke.

“Hey, how’s it going, Dizzy,” Zack asked.

“Must I reiterate at every passing: it’s DZ-i3?”

“Kinda spells Dizzy, though, what’s wrong with a nickname?’

DZ-i3 looked Darla up and down,” what model are you?”

“Do you need a software update, Dizzy, she’s a person.”

“Clearly the rumors are true; you will date anything, Zack.”

“Oh ha, ha, not you too.”

“How are things going with your business?”

“Pretty good. I have a new book, that should be coming out, soon.”

“I will let my owner know of this news. What is this ‘persons’ name, Zack?”

“This is Darla, she works at Jims, we just started dating, ain’t she cute?”

“Dating,” he studied her.

She could tell he was scanning her.

“I wish you the best with this one, I must be going, good day, Zack, and Darla.”

“See ya later.”

“Bye, Dizzy,” she waved.

He gave her an empty glare, before leaving, “that man needs to seek an optometrist.”

“I know you said not to worry, but you don’t date anything, do you?”

“Nah, I’ve just had a series of boyfriends, girlfriends, I’m pansexual,” he explained.

“Attraction not entirely based on gender.”

“Basically. It’s not a problem, is it?”

“Why would it be?”

“Some people don’t like the idea that a person has been with, well, they only want people that align with their way of thinking.”

“I am unbothered, it is their loss, and my gain,” she smiled.

“Crash.”

“Yep, crash.”

They walk further down, before crossing and walking back, Darla is enjoying herself spending time with him. Zack stopped to get something to drink from a gas station, she declined anything, although it’s not his fault, the stares are annoying her, everybody can see through her ruse, and it appears they are judging him.
