Nick

Thursday, October 6, 10:20 a.m.

It's 10:20 already, and I am 20 minutes late for the class like always. I opened my locker and took out my books for AP English. When I shut my locker, it bangs so loudly that it could wake up a dragon who has been in a deep sleep for years. I find my way through the empty hallway. I opened the door and closed it slowly so that Ms. Allison couldn't spot me. When I was about to sit in my seat, I heard a voice that was calling me.

"Nicholas Graham!" I turn around and find Ms. Allison looking at me with her angry eyes.

"You are late for the lecture! Again" she says furiously.

"Ms. Allison...I..." she cuts me off and says "I want you in the Detention after school!"

I sit in my seat but I'm not glum at all because this is usually. I get detention every day.

After 30 minutes the class is over. I walk through the hallway and find Kyle with his girlfriend Lucy. They are talking to Luke and Hannah. I try to walk past them but I hear Kyle calling out to me,

"Hey, Nick!" he shouts as it is very loud in the hallway. I try to act like I didn't hear him but he shouts again

"Nick!" this time I can't ignore them. I felt a hand on my shoulders and when I turned around I saw kyle.

"Oh! Hey, kyle" I say like I didn't hear him before.

"Dude, why weren't you answering," he says with a tension mark on his forehead.

"Oh! You were calling me out?" I say, for the record, I am a good actor.

"Yes," he says.

"It must be the noise, it's too loud here" we walk toward Lucy, Hannah, and Luke. It's not like I don't like them or something. It's just Hannah, she is just so mean. Sometimes I wish she was dead.

When we reach them Lucy says hi to me. She is a very sweet girl by the way.

"Hey, man," Luke punches my arm. "Hey, Luke" I replied.

"Looks like someone has been ignoring us" I turn my eyes toward Hannah and find her curling her hair strip around her index finger.

"Hey, Hannah" I look at her with narrow eyes. She doesn't reply.

"It's just too loud here, I was not able to hear you guys," I say, " Yeah, loud," She mutters sarcastically.

"Anyways, Nick who is your date for the homecoming," Luck changes the topic.

"Nobody," after the break-up with Sarah I have not gone on a single date.

"Are you serious, Nick? It's been 1 year since you broke up with Sarah. You have to go with someone," Kyle insisted.

"Yes, Kyle is right. You need to find a date for the homecoming."Lucy also insisted.

Well, they are right. I need a date for the homecoming.

Hazel

Thursday, October 6, 11:10 a.m.

I walk through the hallway with my friend towards the cafeteria. She is strolling through her phone. A minute later we walk into the cafeteria. Laura puts her phone in the back pocket of her jeans and looks toward me and asks,

"Hey, you going to the homecoming"

"Yes, of course" I pick up my plate and now we are heading towards the table.

"So, Who is your date?" she teases me.

" I don't have a date," I thought she will insist I go to the homecoming with someone but she doesn't.

"We could have gone together but I am going with Jayce. You can come with us if you like," she offers me.

"No, you guys enjoy I can go alone" Laura and Jayce have been together for a year now. I'm happy for them.

"What are you gonna wear?" she asks me hoping that I have selected a dress. Last year I forgot and she panicked like I did commit a crime.

"I am going to wear what I wore on the last homecoming,"

"What?! You haven't selected a dress just like last year," she panics.

"Yes, I have..." she cuts me off and says "That's called wearing an old dress not selecting a dress," she air-quotes the last two words.

"But I..." she cuts me off again. "I don't want to hear anything. We are going shopping today, in the evening, okay?"

"Ok," I don't argue because I know she won't listen.

I look at my phone and it's 11:28 a.m. already.

"I'm going to be late for class!" I push the chair back and quickly run out of the cafeteria. After a minute I take my books, then run to the class–and slam into a male chest. Our books drop to the floor. I bend down to pick them up but our heads hit each other.

"Sorry! I'm so clumsy," I say while rubbing my forehead.

"No, it's my fault," He says. We start collecting our books and stand up.

"I am Nick," he introduces himself.

"I am Hazel, Hazel brown," we look at each other in silence. I don't know what to say next. Suddenly I remember that I am getting late for my lecture.

"Oh, No! I am going to be late!" I shout.

"Me too!" quoth he.

"What class are you heading to?" he asks with curiosity.

"Chemistry, and you?" today I am gonna be late for sure.

"Same," I look at my phone and then say,

"So, we should start running," we hurry to the classroom.

He opens the door for me like a gentleman. I am three minutes late for the lecture and that's against my rules. I should be two minutes early.

We enter the class slowly and sit in our seats Luckily Mr. Davis does not notice us. He is teaching 'Structure Of Atom' shit. I may be a studious girl but, the truth is, I hate to study.

After the class, I head to my friend but, I hear a voice calling someone out,

"Hey, Buttercup, wait up!" the person says

"Hazel, wait!" I turn around and find Nick coming toward me.

"Buttercup?!" I say in amazement.

He reaches me and says, "Yes,"

"A nickname?" I say

" Yeah, do you like it?" Of course not, I hate it. I hate nicknames. When I was in first grade someone called me brownie and I punched him in his face since then nobody has given me a nickname even my parents.

"Yeah, I love it," I lie, "So, why were you calling me?"

"Oh umm, I was thinking if you would like to go out for a coffee with me at 4 o'clock," It seems like he is nervous.

"Ok," I say, I know it's weird. We just met and I hate the nickname he gave to me but, saying no would be mean.
