14 Years Later

You open your eyes to the blinding light of the sun's morning rays hitting your face. You swear you closed the curtains before falling asleep. Moving your arms in an attempt to withstand the light, you fumble your way off the bed, tiredly heading to the curtains. There is only one person who would do this type of thing as a wake up call. "Edric you asshole! Where are you?! I've told you not to do that!"

"You better hope mum didn't hear that, and plus this is the best way to make sure a lazy bum like yourself actually wakes up on time." A tall half elven asshole closes the curtains. You stumble to the floor from your room suddenly going from bright to dark. Looking up, you glare daggers at the person who has made this a usual routine. Edric Darwyn, standing at 6 feet tall with long auburn blonde hair and chestnut colored eyes, despite being 18 he looked like someone in their mid 20's. Cathilda always joked about how Edric was gonna look like he was in his 50's by the time he turns 30 at the rate he works.

"Now come on, get dressed and head downstairs. Mum has breakfast ready and we've got a lot of work ahead of us." He reached a hand down to help you up. Begrudgingly you take the offer and are brought up to your feet. "Okay okay I'll get ready, tell Aunt Cath I'll be down in a minute." You make your way over to a small wooden dresser to grab some clothes for the day as Edric makes his way downstairs. Examining yourself, you make sure everything is in proper order. Same short dirty blonde hair, one lavender colored eye, one orange-red colored eye, and the marking on your back looks good. Putting on your work clothes, you make your way downstairs hoping not to miss any of Cathilda's renowned cooking.

Rushing downstairs, the delicious smell of sizzling eggs filled your nostrils, the smell slowly encompassed the entire interior of the house. Finally reaching the kitchen, you see your Aunt Cath cooking away at some morning breakfast. On the counter you see some bowls of fruits, freshly cut slices of bread, and for you a cup of water. Edric is already seated at the table eating away at an apple likely grabbed from one of the apple trees in the garden, he also had a cup of hot coffee in front of him.

"I see someone is up late. Did you stay awake messing around with that 'project' you are working on?" Aunt Cath asked in a tone insinuating she already knew the answer. The "project" she referred to was a small item you have been working on to keep track of time when not in town. The Elysium town square had a large bell tower that always signaled the time, but after a certain point past the farm lands it would become inaudible, so you figured having a device to do this while traveling would be more useful than having to watch the sun. "Yes I was working on it but I wasn't up until later than 10... no wait, was it 11?" You bonder this genuinely being unsure of when you actually fell asleep.

Aunt Cath let out a tired sigh "I know you love to tinker but don't let it get in the way of your health. Keep it up and I'll be sure to make sure you never consider staying up late again." She spoke with an aura of menace around her. You and Edric both shivered thinking of all the harsh punishments you two have been put through when you both did something you weren't supposed to. Last time Edric was punished for sneaking out at night to go see some girls, and when Aunt Cath caught word she worked him on the farm from sunrise to sunset making him too tired to even think of sneaking out for a week, you often wonder if that's what started his current work habits. "Now go sit at the table and I'll bring food over in a second. I have some plans today so I need both of you to check on the pens to make sure they are all fed, afterwards you two are free for the day."

Edric let out a small chuckle as you sat down, looking towards his mother. You finally noticed how Aunt Cath was dressed wearing her auburn hair in a neat bun to hide some of the gray hairs she had and wore one of her nicer dresses. "I see someone has a date, I'm surprised you were able to find someone in the dating scene wanting to be with a 40 year old mother," Edric said jokingly. He and Aunt Cath would often poke fun at each other, but this time she was not in the mood as Edric was hit in the head with the wooden spatula Aunt Cath was using to scramble the eggs. "I am a crisp 38! And I'll have you know there are plenty of men, women and people who would love to be with someone like me." Aunt Cath has been single since she gave birth to Edric, his birth father was some person Aunt Cath dated for a while but he left town soon after learning she was pregnant. She been on many dates since then but none of them were ever "the one" so it became routine for either you or Edric to comfort her after the date or after the relationship ended, you both have it down to almost a scientific process on how best to comfort Aunt Cath so you both can go back to sleep.

Aunt Cath walks over setting the plate of eggs in front of the both of you and one for herself. "But yes, I do have a date. She's a very dashing half orc lass from Illos! She loves to travel around and she asked me of all people to show her around. She even said to wear a nice dress~." She wasn't even on the date and was already blushing and fawning. Throughout the years you've picked up on the type of people Aunt Cath likes to go for are usually travelers and adventurers. She's always had a desire to live out in the woods in a cottage, be the woman a tired adventurer would return to after a long day, but since none of her previous dates have lasted any longer than a month and had two kids to take care of, she settled on the farm life for now. "Well I hope your date goes well, if she's a mercenary or some kind of adventurer you should maybe take your gear in case she wants to go into the wild, remember last time you didn't and ruined your dress?" You reminded Aunt Cath. "Relax, I have everything I will need." She motioned over to a pack of stuff in the corner.

You all eat the rest of breakfast happily. You and Edric quickly say goodbye to Aunt Cath as she leaves on her date and you two get to work. To make things faster, Edric suggests that you both split up to get more of the pens fed. He offers to get the cows, chickens, and pigs all good if you check on the horses and do a quick walk around the garden for any critters. Agreeing to this, you both make quick work of the tasks, being done before it was even time for lunch. Meeting back at the house, you both clean off and change into your casual clothes. "Hey! Let's go to the café, since we have time it would be good to see the group again." Edric suggests.

"Sounds good, but please don't make me, Vax, and Quaria third wheels again to you and Lotus. Last time was just awkward."

"Relax we won't, besides I remember Lotus is in charge of the café today so we won't be next to each other as much."

"You better keep to that. Next time you do that I'm gonna tell Aunt Cath about you two," grabbing your things, you give an evil smirk towards Edric as he pleads to you, "I promise! If you tell mom then I won't ever hear the end of it..."
