"Why do you have so many pill bottles in your room?"

Silence.

Her hands froze as she held the game controller, fingers stuck in place. Enemies that swarmed over Y/N's character weren't important anymore, the battle from the tv so insignificant.

Her eyebrows slightly rose, rounding her eyes. It took her a moment to digest what he just said and when she came to her senses in that split second, she snapped her head towards him.
"How did yo-"

"Why aren't you going to school?", his voice rasped.
Truth be told, he didn't need a very long explanation. He was sharp enough to do some of his own research on the strange names on the labels later, what they meant, what they were used for.
And as for her, she didn't think she'll need to explain this issue to him this soon, giving how socially distanced he was. She didn't calculate the possibility that she'll develop this type of friendship with him.
Of course, after a while, she started coming up with various scenarios where she broke down the truth to him. Not one of the outcomes have prepared her for this moment in front of her.
"Is this why you left?"
The question that broke them both the most.

She stuttered over her words in her head. Her mouth open, but not a single word could be formed

'I'm sick' was what she wanted to tell him. But he already saw what she meant to say.
Her eyes betrayed her.

"What's making you sick?"
Her thoughts interrupted.

His eyes pierced hers. Her mouth still slightly agape before she closed them in determination, swallowing the anxiety that piled up in her throat.
"My quirk", she began, "it... malfunctioned"

"So you have to take those cuz of it?"

"So many questions Katsuki, let's go do something else. I have playing cards-"

"No, you're gonna fuckin tell me everything and not annoy me while doing it"

"Aren't you already annoyed?"

"You don't even know", his teeth gritted.

"Fine..."
A thick pause lingered between them. His eyes staring at the ceiling of her room, getting distracted for just a short moment by the glowing stars she had glued there. His brows scrunched in annoyance.

"Are you gonna get better?"

"Not much"
He remained silent looking for a glimpse of lie in her deep eyes. She wasn't lying. She never lied.
"I have a month, at best", his heart sank.
Out of all the possibilities he had in his head, he wasn't expecting any that would make him as miserable as he felt in that moment.
"...most of my cells are degenerating and disappearing cause of my teleportation quirk"

She's lying. She has to be...

"Fuck", his hands reached to the sides of his head, rubbing his hair in fury.

"Oh come on, you said you'll laugh when you find out my secret"

"Don't mess around", he wasn't moving, not a single look in her direction, but she could see the redness of his neck and how his voice shook just slightly.

"Hey, you okay?"
He felt her touch on his shoulder. So warm, so delicate. It stung his heart even more, because now everytime he'd even think about her, it reminded him of the other thing that ate her alive—the sickness that apparently couldn't be cured.

"Fuck off", he abruptly stood up, her hand lingering in the air for just a moment before she retrieved it.
She couldn't see his face, not when he was turned with his back towards her, but, from the way his voice sounded, she could only imagine how pained his expression was.
"I wish I had never met you"

"Ow come on... you don't actually mean that", trying to be nonchalant, as If those words didn't hurt her.

He didn't say a single word as he walked towards her door, but before opening it, he tossed a glance towards her seated figure on the floor.
She was so quiet.
It was painful to watch her as she shed tears with her head bowed down, trying to stop looking so pathetic in front of someone so important to her.

It was her fault, she thought to herself.
So selfish of her to disturb his life with her problem.

But in the end maybe it's for the better. He wouldn't have to mourn her as heavily If he detached himself from her world on time.
