Depressing is the picture Gotham always paints, Dark grey skies and the constant promise of rain. Never did anyone dwelling in the crime filled city see sunshine, It's joyful rays hidden behind the grey clouds. Perhaps that's why everyone in Gotham never smiles, Always frowning or serious face's worn by the people who are living—no, Surviving in Gotham.

At least that's what Edward use to think until meeting you, The radiant beautiful ball of sunshine City needed. With a warm friendly smile and the upmost kindest eyes Edward didn't believe could exist in Gotham is what drawn him to you, Like a moth to light he felt as if he didn't get close enough to you, You'd fade away into darkness as if you never truly existed. But he had only met you, If he got too close you would fade away either way, He didn't stand a chance.

Or so he thought, It was the day you and him had first met; Running into you and knocking everything you held in your arms to the dirty street below. After apologizing nervously, stammering his words while keeping his head down low. Occasionally glancing up at you enraptured by your beauty, You crouched down to gather your groceries while he done the same.

"I'm-I'm sorry, I should have been watching where I was going and-" He stops rambling abruptly to look at the torn brown bag that once held the bag of flour and sugar you had purchased at the market. "I didn't mean to cause your bag to rip..." He sighs as if he's disappointed in himself for being so foolish to go and ruin someone as beautiful as you, day.

You giggle and wave the situation off, "These stupid paper bags tear themselves apart if you do something as simple as gently poke them, I should have brought my tote bag to carry them in" You say kindly while he gathers the now bag less groceries and holds them in his arms. As you both stand up, You get a good look at the kind stranger who surprisingly is still helping you rather than run away with your groceries like you'd expect from someone here.

You feel your heart skip a beat at the sight of him, Gorgeous green eyes glimmering like a lake when the sun dances across its surface. Round boyish cheeks dusted lightly in a pink hue while he offers you a smile, Pink lips tugged up softly. He's pretty, The most prettiest sight in Gotham. You clear your throat after a few moments of gawking at the man in awe and chuckle to yourself out of embarrassment before registering he has said something.

"I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that?" You mentally scold yourself for staring at him, He probably thinks your weird or rude but you can't help it, He's handsome.

"I asked if-if you don't mind-if I could maybe walk you home-since it would be troublesome carrying these" He punctuated his words by Holding the groceries in his arms.

You grin at his adorable behavior, How he seems to jumble his words up out of nervousness. You nod while slowly walking in the direction towards your rundown apartment building.

"If you don't mind, I'd really appreciate that" You say while he doesn't hesitate to follow, Green eyes bouncing from street addresses to the surrounding scenes as if he's committing it all to memory, Little did you know, He was.

"I'm [Y/N] by the way..." You spoke after a moment of silence, Deciding to exchange your name since you were practically leading him to your home.

[Y/N], Such a beautiful name for a beautiful woman, Edward thinks to himself with a small grin. "Edward, It's nice to meet you-[Y/N]" Your name rolling off his tongue quietly and shortly while he keeps his eyes ahead of you both.

Then, As you both walk down the street, You find conversation between you both flowing easily albeit his shyness and awkward behavior does have the conversation stuttering at some moments. The walk to your apartment building enjoyable and nice.

Though all good things come to a end and you are now stood outside the tall building you live in. Edward looks up at the building and back to you with a reluctant look as you put most of the groceries you held in one arm while reaching for the ones he held.

"I can walk these up to your room for you, So you-you don't drop anything" He seems desperate to stay by your side as long as possible, That he knows so when you open your mouth to speak, A sugarcoated decline he knew for sure, He simply passes the groceries to you and looks down at his wrist as if checking the time but blushes out of embarrassment when he realizes he doesn't even have a watch. Thankfully you didn't notice that though and he looks gives a tight lipped smile.

"It was nice to have met you, But I-I have-There's this thing I forgot about-work related and I must go" He stammers out and you try not to let your disappointment show on your face as you smile at him. You were going to invite him in for coffee or tea after taking him up on his offer to allow him to help you carry the groceries up to your room.

"Well, I don't want to keep you from being late-thank you so much for helping me, Edward" You said while he stares at you in awe for a moment longer.

"it's the least I could do after knocking you over" He runs a hand through the soft brown hair atop his head before watching you slowly make your way up the small stairs leading to the buildings entrance.

"Goodbye, Edward...Hopefully I'll see you around?" You said before pushing the door open with little struggle while Edward simply stares at you in a trance.

He should have held the door open for you, Waved or told you goodbye, But instead he stood frozen in his place like a idiot. Edward sighs before walking the path he just came from, Mind fixated on you.

Edward thought Gotham was full of scum, Disgusting liars and corrupt people. He didn't see why the City is still standing when it deserves to fall with its dwellers inside, The sin's within it unforgivable.

He still believes that, Nothing can change the truth unblind to his eyes, But he didn't believe he'd stumble upon an Angel living in a city full of sin. Your innocence, Your beauty and kind heart gives Edward all the more reason to act out his plan, He needs to protect you, Needs to shield you from the corrupt city.

He'd do whatever it takes to do so, He'll watch over you every night until he finally scrounges up the courage to ask you out properly.

Edward smiles at the thought like a lovesick boy, Hands stuffed in his coat pockets while he walks home.
