Long ago, a vampire named Aleister was stranded from a group of fellow moon beasts under the twinkling night sky. They were all in search of a new home due to their old one being raided by villagers, searching to kill them all. Aleister remembers falling asleep in a small, dank cave as the yellow rays of fire slowly creep up in the sky, then waking up that night to find it completely deserted. Only the quiet drops of water leaking from the cave's ceiling were there to hear his frightened cries for the others as if they were weeping for him. They forgot about him; he was abandoned. Heartbroken, Aleister left the cave and wandered aimlessly among the burning stars hoping he'll see them again, but that hope faded with the stars as it reached dawn once again.
The next night fell upon him like a dark, empty, blanket. Crawling out of his hiding place he smelt the faint scent of humans nearby making him lick his lips, the only living creatures he's been able to drink since he left were animals which wasn't as satisfying as drinking a human. He quickly follows the scent as he is accompanied by the many lullabies the bugs and frogs sing out to mother nature.
After some time, a small cluster of lights from a small southern village came into view. Aleister kept himself hidden in the shadows as his light eyes shifted to the homes with a candle still glowing inside. One home that's closest to him, however, catches his eye as laughter can be heard from it.
"I win again!" a young man says as he places a checker piece down."What?!" an older man looks at the board bewildered as an older woman laughs at him.
"Jebidiah, you look madder than a wet hen!" The older woman teases as a small girl giggles besides her.
"Yeah daddy, a wet hen!" the younger girl says.
"Oh hush you two, Maxwell must have been cheatin', I was gonna win!" Jebidiah examines the pieces carefully
"I did no such thing pa', I won fair and square!" Maxwell crosses his arms. "You agree with me right ma'?"
"Of course I do Maxy, you know your father can't stand losing his favorite game."
Aleister watches Maxwell with interest. This part of the world is unknown to him, he needs someone to assist him if he wants to survive, and he knows no one is going to willingly do that for him. A slow mischievous smirk forms on his chapped lips as an idea forms in his head, he'll get Maxwell out one way or another.
"Max!" The young girl scurries to her older brother. "I saw William today while walkin' home from school and you were right, he could eat corn through a picket fence!"
"Maxwell Alden don't tell her things like that!" His mother puts both of her hands on her hips as she gives both of her children a stern glare.
"It's true dear." Jebidiah speaks up. "That boy has the biggest buck teeth I've ever seen in my entire life!"
"See ma'? Even-" Maxwell pauses when he hears scraping along the back of the house. "What the hell was that?" He stands up and slowly walks towards a window with his father following behind him while his sister hugs her mother.
"Hm, it's hard to see anything out there." Jebidiah squints thinking it would help him see better.
"Wait, over there!" Maxwell points to a dark corner nearest to a wooded area. "I see something movin' there! Pa' get me the rifle."
"Maxy you are not going out there!"
"I'm gonna ma'." He grabs the rifle near the front door. "I'll be right back, I promise."
"But-"
"Let him go dear, he ain't no little boy no more."
"I know but he'll always be my baby to me." His mother hugs Jebidiah as his sister watches him slowly close the front door.
