I look up as the big, heavy doors creak open. I look up to see Ace and I stand.
He enters the room and the doors close behind him.
"What?"I ask.
"I was told to bring you somewhere, come on."he says gripping my arm.
"Wh-Where?"I ask.
He huffs as he walks me towards the door.
...
I walk with Ace down a long coiling pathway.
"Where are we going?"I ask.
"Alice, the less you know the better."he says.
This scares me.
....
We come to a very tall statue of someone I didn't recognize.
"Is that Belial?"I ask, taking a few steps back and looking up.
"..it's your mother."
My head snaps back towards him.
"What?"I whimper.
"It's your mother. Meredith. She's worshipped here."Ace says.
I touch the foot of the large statue and whimper.
"She's worshipped? F-for what?"I ask softly.
"For sacrificing herself in the name of her master. For giving herself to the cause."Ace says.
"The cause?"I ask.
"Your mother died after giving birth to you, but says before this, she saved Belial's life. Brought him a vessel. She killed a man."
I gasp.
"My mother could never."I cry at him.
"His name was Stephen James. She brought him into the basement of your home. Sedated him, drew a sacred symbol with the red chalk you found. Cut his wrists with the razorblades you saw. And summoned Belial with the very book that you did."Ace says.
"I don't believe it."I shake my head.
"Belial's appearance is that of Stephen James, because she sacrificed him to save Belial."Ace says.
I place my hand on my chest. Why not believe it. Why not believe my mother was a murderer.
"She loved you so much."Ace says, turning away from me.
"And, she saved Belial, so that he could save you."
I look at him.
"What do you mean?"I ask.
"You...you never were a child of God, Alice. You died inside your mother at 8 months. And Belial, he gave you life again."Ace says.
"Wh-why are you telling me this?!"I ask, crying.
Ace huffs as he takes off his dark sunglasses.
"B-because, Belial has given you life, once again."he says.
Something in my heart drops and I stumble.
"I-i'm pregnant."I say.
He nods.
I stumble, and he quickly catches me before I fall.
"Alice, you can't become distracted. We have a mission."Ace says quietly.
"I'm pregnant."I say, blank, my eyes glossing over.
"No, no, Alice listen to me. The baby must be born in the human world."He says.
"Why?"I ask.
"Because without the power it'll game from this place, it will not be able to destroy the humans. It needs to be here in order to do that, and we can't it it back up to the human world without completing the mission."he says.
Tears leak out of my eyes and I look at him.
"We're doomed."I say quietly.
"Don't give up hope, come on. Get up."he says, helping me up.
I stand and he takes me back to the statue of my mother.
"Maybe she can help us."he says, making me look at him.
"Pray to her."
I look up at my mother and let out a sigh.
"Dear, Mother.."
