fifth one-shot (005)
❝I'm pissed off, funny and warm. I'm a good man in a storm. And when the fall is torrential, I'll recall.❞

𝐀 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐄 teardrop fell from her radiant ocean eyes —wasted in the rain. Behind those shut eyelids heart wrenching memories and daydreams called for a downcast. Sam felt her damp chin dripping from tears —so she wrapped her umbrella until it closed.
The clouds moved at it's own pace, and Sam watched, mesmerized by the sight, flooded in rain. Freddie was far behind walking home when he caught the blonde drenched, and looking around for a miracle perhaps.
A bully couldn't move Freddie to such extents, but the vulnerable best friend crying on the other hand rushed him into a race for her broken heart. His shoes soaked with water gathered as he paced across the street with open arms.
Sam breathed a shaky breath out in relief upon seeing Freddie was alone. No Carly to judge her, no Spencer to tell her, and no Gibby to ruin her —just Freddie hugging her in the rain.
Engulfed in her scent (bacon & sweet vanilla) Freddie whispered into her ear loud enough to hear in a storm. "Do you want to go home?"
She didn't answer right away, worrying him, but eventually she rested on his shoulder and talked. "No. I want to go to your home." She whispered.
Freddie nodded and took her hand, like she would get lost in the weather, and walked home together. He opened up his umbrella and put it directly under the soaked blonde. Together, in Bushwell Plaza they filled the dry floor with soaked shoe spots that the doorman complained about.
Apartment 8–C was open and occupied by her best friend next door, but Sam ignored it and shuffled into Freddie's apartment without shoes. Before long she was in his room, aware that his mother wouldn't be here till midnight.
"You still have these sheets." Sam referred to the Galaxy War blankets covering Freddie's bed, but instead of answering he simply removed them and replaced the embarrassing blankets with plain brown one's. "You're such a dork." She said, finally growing a smile.
"Well this dork is making dinner; which is frozen lasagna... vegan lasagna." Freddie heard the girl groan miserably, and he joined in, his mother was crazy healthy. "I'll order pizza then."
In the past years Sam had gotten used to Freddie's company, and made friends with him without any knowledge of they're new relationship. She joked, he laughed, Sam loved him, and Freddie fell for it —both of them noticed that part.
Things got awkward in their past, and Freddie knew Sam never liked to talk about it, so he just thought about it... all the time. Sam was in love with him for years and one day seemingly asked him out in the lock–in admitting that she couldn't live without him anymore. But Freddie was innocent and rejected her at an age he didn't understand what love felt like.
There was no denying Sam had never forgotten this day, and occasionally went on dates to forget about everything. Today she broke up with a boyfriend who told her the awful truth. Sam didn't love him, because she was still in love with Freddie.
Love was blinding, so when she looked at Freddie —no one else existed. She wished that they had better timing, oh she really did wish it. Sam would never forget about them. Never.
"Another break-up?" Freddie asked, sitting beside her. "It would be the third time this month, Sam." He broke her heart with his regretful voice.
"I know." She did. "And I'm done, so you don't have to worry." Sam genuinely felt him sorry for her, so she eased the pain.
Freddie loved her. "Sam, can you promise me something?"
"I'll stop, Freddie—"
"Can you?" He slowed her down, a hand intertwined in hers.
Sam leaned into his embrace. "Yes. I can."
"Promise me you won't lie when I tell you that I know. About everything, really." Freddie paused, to look into Sam's radiant ocean eyes, coated with love. "Promise to tell me if you love me."
A silence stretched the room, before Sam really smiled. "I promise, because I love you."

𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑'𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄: You got that, right? Sam loved Freddie and he rejected her in this universe. Till one day Freddie finally admits that he does love her in this fanfiction, in a very creative way when she walks home in the rain after yet another break-up.
Hope you liked this one-shot! Did you? No. Yes? Oh, I'm just hearing things.
NEXT ONE-SHOT WILL BE FROM A REQUEST I RECENTLY GOT! YES, I finally got a request!
