"Do you know what happened to your family?" asks Pietro. His voice is soft and comforting, showing that he won't press.
You shake your head. "I asked. They never answered. I don't even think I want to know, to be honest. I'd rather just think they died at some point while I was locked up and that's the end of it, but I know better."
He stays silent, rubbing his thumb lightly over the back of your intertwined hands.
"It's all right," you reassure him. You look around the park you're sitting at, trying to distract yourself from the pretty boy sitting next to you. Wanda had offered you a jacket of hers, in blue, except from the size you're thinking it might be Pietro's. You're staring at a building in the distance, not really paying any attention to anything, when Pietro softly grabs the side of your face, turning your head to face him. It takes you a second to snap back into the present. "What, sorry?"
"I just asked what you were thinking about." Even though you're paying attention, Pietro is still holding onto your face.
"I don't even know." You let out a half-chuckle, letting your eyes fall shut. His grip on your cheek tightens, presumably to keep your head from dropping harshly and you hurting your neck.
"Are you tired?"
You can't tell if he says it in a joking way or if he's actually wondering. "Yeah, kinda. I haven't had a decent night's sleep in... Fuck, it's been like ten years."
There's a slight flash of pity directed towards you that flickers over Pietro's face, but you don't notice it, since, you know, your eyes are closed. "I can bring you back, if you want." You nod slightly, opening your eyes. You have to blink a few times to readjust your vision to the sunlight. "Do you want me to run you back or just walk with you?"
"We can walk," you say. He stands up first, gently releasing his hand from your face and holding his hand out. You take it, pulling yourself up, expecting him to release your hand.
He doesn't.
You're not complaining. You breathe a soft laugh out through your nose as the two of you start walking. It's a silent fifteen-minute walk, but it's comfortable silence.
By the time you get to the hotel that Ultron had managed to get the three of you rooms in, you're 100% ready for a nap. Saying goodbye to Pietro, you go into the nicely finished room you're staying in (when you're not at the base, at least) that's beside Wanda's, whose is in between both of yours, collapsing on the bed. Now that you have the ability to sleep, you're awake.
Figures.
Cursing your brain for nothing at all, you head for a shower, deciding that the hot water will probably make you tired again. You don't want to do anything except sleep, and maybe talk to Pietro.
After your shower, you go out and collapse on your bed, playing some music through the TV speakers. You fall asleep soon after that.
