Chapter Two
Captain Shadranok looked over at me as I opened the locker assigned to me and saw the gear hanging neatly. The black Kevlar vest was not only meant for protection during the test, but there were hundreds of sensors embedded in the best the monitor our bodies. The Kevlar lined helmet with a face shield was meant for the same thing. During this test a scenario would be projected on our face shield and we would be expected to accomplish a certain goal. However the sensors in the helmet are connected with the brain and what ever injury you sustain in the simulation the sensors make your brain feel as if it really happened so there is realistic pain involved with the test. Only a few of teams has ever completed test and only a handful have finished it in the time allotted so everyone is nervous.
"Fallon, relax" Shadow said as he pulled the vest on and zipped it on.
"How? This test is everything. If we don't do well we will be dismissed..." He cut me off as he raised a hand and Jace glanced over at us.
"Trust me. I will make sure that everything goes smoothly" he reassured me as he put his hand on my shoulder and I sighed.
"I'm worried about those three" I admitted as I pointed at the three guys horsing around with their gear and Captain Shadranok scowled.
"They act like damn kids and I feel like you and I are the only adults..." Fane cut him off as he and Kale started wrestling and Shadow crossed his arms in annoyance.
"If you three don't stop being dumb asses, I will make you all do extra training" the commander threatened and the three idiots froze as their faces filled with horror, but I laughed. They looked like three little brothers who had just been scolded by their parents.
Then an instructor marched into the room and we all froze, yet Shadow simply looked at the man with a straight face.
"Captain Shadranok, once your team is ready I will take you to the training room and you will been told the perimeters of the assignment. Then if you complete the assignment you will progress to another stage of assessment" the instructor stated calmly and I pulled on the vest as my heart started to race. The Kevlar snugged against my skin and I took a deep breath.
"Yes, sir" the commander replied firmly as he glanced at the four of us with a warning glare, mainly Fane Kale and Jace.
"I will be waiting outside for you" the instructor announced and walked away leaving us in silence.
"I have one word of advice for the three of you" Shadow growled towards the three guys and they looked at him sheepishly. "If you mess this up, I will kill you and no one will ever find all the pieces of your bodies" he threatened and they all went pale.
"Why aren't you threatening her?" Jace muttered and Captain Shadranok raised an eyebrow at him.
"What was that?" The commander asked with an edge to his voice and Jace looked at the floor.
"Why aren't you threatening Fallon?" He repeated and Shadow smirked.
"Because I'm not worried about her making dumb mistakes" he answered and the three of them scowled at me.
"Alright, boys, let's get ready" I mused and they all rolled their eyes at me as I put on my helmet.
"Let's do this shit!" Kale said as he put his helmet on and Shadow sighed.
"Let's go kick some ass" Jace cheered in agreement and we all look at our massive commander.
"Just follow my orders and you will be fine. Now let's get this done" Captain Shadranok announced and we followed him out of the locker room.Authors Note
