The next day, Ashlyn tagged along with Samuel and Beckett to town. She sat on a bench and pulled out her current notebook to continue working on her latest story, while the boys did their thing.
A black man was watching Samuel from a distance and he also noticed Beckett taking things from the crowd without them knowing.
"I know you all and will a while uphold the unyoked honor of your idleness, like bright metal on a sullen ground. My reformation glittering over my faults shall be seen to be more goodly and attract more eyes than that which hath no foil to set it off. I shall so offend to make offense a skill, redeeming time when men think least I will." Samuel recited, then took a bow.
The crowd clapped and cheered for him, as well as giving any spare change they had.
Samuel sat down to collect the money he earned. Then, he felt the presence of someone standing near him. It was the black man who watched him.
"Where'd you learn to do that, kid?" he asked.
"Hard to say, really." Samuel responded.
"What's your name?" the black man asked.
"Samuel." he stated.
"Samuel. You know you remind me of a once dear friend." the black man said.
"Yeah? Does he perform around here?" Samuel questioned.
"No. No, the west end of London. Those were his playgrounds." the black man said.
Ashlyn closed her notebook and put it back in her bag. Then, she walked over to Samuel and the black man.
"Wow, you were amazing today. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt." Ashlyn said.
"No, you're just fine. What's your name, sweetheart?" the black man asked her.
"Ashlyn." she stated.
"That's a nice name. Are you and...?" the black man said.
"She's my sister." Samuel said as he stood up, next to Ashlyn.
"Oh. You have a talented big brother, young lady." the black man said.
"So I do." Ashlyn said as she put some hair behind her ear.
"You know let me do my bit." the black man said, then pulled out some money from his pocket.
He dropped a $20 bill on the ground. Samuel picked it up and examined it. He had never gotten a bill that big before.
"Good luck, huh? You two look like you need it." the black man said to them before walking away.
Ashlyn helped Samuel gather up the money he earned.
"Why did you tell him I was your sister?" she asked.
"I don't know. It just popped in my head." Samuel said.
The next day, Samuel told Ashlyn to stay in the back room for the night because his family is doing something special. She agreed and kept herself busy with her writing.
Samuel pulled his dresser away from wall to get to the back.
"Dang it." he exclaimed.
He walked out of his room to find his older brother in the bathroom.
"We need that ingredients. Butter, flour, eggs." Samuel said.
"So, go buy it then." Beckett said.
"He found the new hiding place." Samuel said.
"That son of a gun." Beckett exclaimed.
"Look, I'll figure this out, all right." Samuel said, then grabs a jacket.
