I was clearly not expecting a door bell. Not at midnight...in green panties and all.
The only time this ever happened was Charlie's birthday.
She was holding a long tube of dead butterflies, knocking each one off the tube end.
I would laugh at the silliness and other girls joined in.
Then he would run to the door bell of his house and ring several times till one of the boys in the back pool stood up filled with shame. He would be really shallow minded and afraid, thinking he would lose his friends after all if he didn't get out of the pool.
I would laugh at this too. Thus time, I didn't laugh.
Kevin or whatever his name stood outside. Green khaki shorts and a long waistcoat.
He was holding a long bandana with several keys inside.
"May I come in?" He said, in his long commanding tone.
I blushed.***
He took to the farthest seat, and sank into the sofa, his big muscles draining the pillow case.
"You called me!" He paused, "Did you?"
I nearly bit my lip. Debbie that fool. Not again.
"Well, I'll have to think of that then..." I bit my lip. This time it hurt.
"What's your wish then?" He said. He looked me right in the eye. "Do you like volleyball or basketball....we could go hiking you know?"It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter anymore. Is what I wanted to say. My mind was recreating things....
Basketball...did that mean like meeting all the cool boys at the party...they could overpower me...I would be helpless...I could finally lose out.Clinck.
Another door bell.
