Bright colors swirled around and came together to create a scenery. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen. So beautiful. I let my hands graze over the soft blades of the tall grass that surrounded me. It was like heaven. I took a few steps forward and took in my surroundings. Trees that rose to the skies with their green leaves tickling the peak, flowers danced around in the wind...it was my dream come true.
In the distance I could see a light blue two-story house. I was lured to that house and up the doorsteps. There was a wrap-around porch and beautiful white curtains hanging in the windows. The house was large enough to fit a five adults in different rooms. Maybe even some pets could be fit. I gently knocked on the fancy white door of this beautiful house, wanting to see who lived inside.
After several minutes of waiting, the door opened to reveal a tall blonde with an emotionless expression. A gold cross hairpin held back his bangs. Only when he spoke did I recognize who this person was. "Emil? Why are you outside? It's dangerous."
I stared in awe at my older brother, Lukas. "Wow..my brother is so handsome.." I muttered under my breath as I took the hand he outstretched to me. "And without your shades? Really? Stop being so careless." I nodded as he led me inside and to a bright white couch, which also seated another tall man with blonde hair. His hair was spiked up. He was grinning at Lukas. "Norge! You should make me some food!"
"Matthias?" I whispered. "Duh. Haven't forgotten me yet have you?"
"I didn't expect you to look like this?"
"What are you talking about? You can't-"
At that moment I was awoken to the sound of my brother's voice by my ear. "Emil. Wake up. We allowed you to sleep in. Tino's having a fit that you aren't down for breakfast though." I opened my eyes groggily, disappointed when all I saw was the dark shadows and sihouettes of the objects in the room. "Lukas..?"
"Yes?"
"Did you turn on the light?"
"I did."
"Oh..Lukas what do you look like?"
"What?" He asked. I could hear his footsteps as he made his way to what I assumed was my closet. "Well, I have blond hair. I'm tall, but shorter than Matthias. I pin my hair back with a golden cross hairpin, I'm a bit pale.. Emil we've been over these characteristics."
"I just like to try and visualize what you look like based upon what you tell me." I whispered as I sat up on the bed. "I understand that. I promise you though, sometimes I wish I was as special as you are. There are some things in life that one should never see, and you never have to see those things. For that, I envy your disability at times."
"There are some things that one must see in their life as well. I don't get the opportunity to see those except in my dreams. Only rarely do those have color..I had a dream filled color last night Lukas. You and Matthias were there. It seemed so real...I didn't want to wake up.."
Lukas shuffled back over to me and pulled off my pajama shirt. I could do it myself, but Lukas changed me so I wouldn't put anything on backwards. "I bet you didn't lillebror." I sighed as he pulled my shirt over my head and pulled my arms through the correct holes. That's when I heard the singing coming up the steps. "I'm in love with a fairytale~!"
I giggled. It was Tino. I heard the soft pats of his feet entering my room. "Nice singing, Tino. You should try auditioning."
"Don't even." He laughed at me, joining Lukas in getting me dressed. "Emil, stand up buddy." I threw my legs over the side of the bed, not a bit ashamed that I was in my boxers. It was what most boys wore to bed anyway. Unless you're Matthias. Then you slept naked .
My feet met the padded carpet. Lukas' hand held my right hand while Tino's held my left. With teamwork, we managed to get me into my pants. "What colors am I wearing?"
"Well, Lukas picked out a white, baggy shirt with the Icelandic flag on the chest. You're wearing black skinny jeans."
"Thank you Tino, thank you Lukas." I pulled them both to stand and together the three of us made our way downstairs. Each time I would try to take a step down, both of them would tell me to be careful, would tell me how far to step, and they told me when I hit the floor. As if I didn't already know.
I could hear Matthias long before he saw the three of us. He was yelling something about how the food was fantastic. I bet it was. I also bet that Berwald had to help Tino, otherwise the food would have been slightly burnt.
"Shut it, Dane!" Lukas shouted over him as I was taken into the kitchen.
"Alright, you can sit now, Emil." I lowered myself into the chair that Lukas would beat someone over if they sat in it. It was my chair. From that spot was the only place I was able to navigate the area of the table to find where everything was. It sounded silly, but it was true. If I moved to another seat I would have to have someone to pass the condiments to me. I didn't like feeling like I couldn't do things on my own, so that was one of the very few things I was able to do freely without help.
"You start school back tomorrow, don't you?" Berwald asked me. "I do. I heard we're getting a new student or something. Some Cantonese boy."
"I know. We all know his older brother. Except you, of course."
Tino piped in, "You mean Yao's little brother?"
"That's the one!" Matthias shouted.
"Stop being so loud." Lukas scolded.
I just laughed at the four. "Is his brother a good man?"
"Yes, he is. Very nice and well-rounded." Berwald said from beside me. If his brother was a good man, this kid couldn't be that bad, right? You'd think that would have been what I was thinking about for the rest of the day, how I'd let the new kid know I was blind. Nope. I was more so worried that I couldn't remember what it was we had learned two weeks prior...
