Alex Smith was a very attractive man. Soft and curly auburn hair, emerald green eyes always sparkling happily, tan skin marked with cute freckles that looked like constellations. Women loved him, Men envied him, anything he wanted, no matter how expensive, he could buy within seconds. Diamonds and gold could decorate his house like the most flamboyant art, the most delicate silks could be used in his clothing, and yet, he chose to have a dusty Victorian style mirror, hanging in his halls. He was so wealthy he could afford a new one, one even better and more fitting to his expensive avenue, so why keep such an old decoration up and on display for that matter?
The answer was simple, really. To honour his late father. His father meant the world to him, he was his rock, his hero. He would always go out exploring with him, and the two were inseparable, always expressing their love for each other with silly games. He felt like nothing could drag the two apart, nothing in the world could take his dad away. That was, until one day.
He ran to go wake his father up, to go on a new adventure together, or maybe try a new ice cream flavour, climbing onto the bed to see his face then he realised, his father wasn't waking up. His once navy blue eyes full of admiration for his son were closed and made no effort to open. Young Alex cried and begged for his Papa to wake up, to hear him say "I love you" to him one last time, but he never did. He never got to hear that one last sentence of comfort from his father.
His parents were divorced long before his father died, so he went to see his mother after that, he tried to be happy he really did. But it was like a part of him died with his father, a part he could never get back. But he still smiled with sparkling eyes, it's what his father would have wanted. For him to keep his head up. To stay strong. His mother sorted out the will, and told Alex about how he was trusted with a mirror he would see in the halls of his house that his father would always point out to him. A family air loom of his fathers that he would be taking and passing down.
And so when Alex grew older, he took the Victorian mirror with him, to his new house he brought when his modelling career was taking off, and gave the mirror its own special and secure spot in the hallway. Despite being so successful, despite having so much money and being able to get anything he desired, this mirror was still his most prized possession.
It was funny really, a mirror he was promised when he was just 6 years old, was still with him and intact as he'd reached to be 21, and he was still very happy to own something his father cherished just as much as he cherished him.
So today he promised he'd clean the mirror, for his father, to see what it once was in it's prime, he had never bothered before, in fear he would break it, but today he was sure he'd restore the history that was now hanging in his hallway.
"I'll do this for you, dad" he said, smiling at the mirror.
"Let's finally uncover the years of history this big boy has."
