"ADVANCE!" Reinhardt yelled out as he activated his shield wall. Dozens of Overwatch foot soldiers came running out of over and jumping out of 'rabbit holes'. Most of them not being able to out gun the bastion units. A wall of bullets as Captain Amari put it. Lena stayed huddled behind the shield, waiting for Winston to clear a path for her. Shot after shot came and more and more soldiers fell to the Null Sector forces. They just needed to hold the beach line long enough for civilian boats to leave the danger zone.
The flash of Winston's lightning gun swooped across in front of the shield, taking with it 4 Null infantry units.
"Go Tracer, I will cover you!" Winston called out over the coms.
"Gotcha!" Lena replied with a small tremor in her voice.
She joined up with the advancing soldiers, some of them looking to her as hope and inspiration, whilst others were cut down. It was hard to concentrate on what was going on, bullets smacking the sand and mortar shells that caused small dust storms when they exploded, the occasional dark glass from laser and plasma fire were scattered about.
Without a second thought Lena slowed down her own time, something in her head was telling her to dodge right. She didn't listen. The voice became louder and louder, it almost sounded like. Her own voice.
But, she didn't have time to think about this as within less than a fraction of a seconds a white flash blinded her. She felt her body get shaken about violently. Her chest as well became lighter. No No NO! This isn't happening! Not AGAIN! She thought to herself as a blue haze grasped her vision and her whole body became lighter as a force started pulling her back.
"NOO!"
Lena woke up in a panic, quickly grasping at her bare chest, her eyes frantically looking around trying to figure out where and when she was. It was just her bedroom in her flat in the current timeline. This however, did little to slow down her breathing. Looking down at her chest as she pulled away her own hand she noticed she'd pierced the skin and a small amount of blood was now dribbling down her front.
It wasn't unlike Lena to get the occasional nightmare, but it was unlike her to get this agitated by them. This one was different to the others, this one was one of her biggest fears. Just disappearing, again.
Looking at her phone on her night stand and seeing it was just after 5 in the morning she accepted she wouldn't be sleeping until 8 like she normally does. With that she got herself out of bed, stretched and scratched, threw on a top and made her way to the kettle. Refusing to get a clean cup over her favourite mug she got her 'Keep Calm I'm a Lesbian' mug that Winston had gotten her shortly after she came out to the team.
"You look troubled young Oxton" A kind Egyptian accent said behind her.
"Oh hi Cap, just look out for any Nullies." Lena said, grasping the rifle and repositioning the butt into her shoulder. Anna Amari wasn't buying into Lena's reasoning, so she did what any good mother figure would do. Pry.
She knew roughly what was on Lena's mind. Angela had introduced her new girlfriend to the team (who was also in the medical division of Overwatch) and Anna had noticed that Lena had looked almost embarrassed after smiling at the excitement of the lead medical officer.
"It was nice to see Dr Ziegler's girlfriend. It's good to see that even in all of this," She pointed out the wrecked city scape "Love can find a way to flourish. I remember when I first met Ziegler, she had a boyfriend back then I think. Nice guy, Reinhardt was of course questioning her as he does with new recruits. And she had just so happened to mention that her ex girlfriend was German too. It was as simple as that, just saying that she had a girlfriend and everyone understood."
