Chapter Two - Freedom following Disaster

4 1 1

It felt like years since I've seen the bright, beautiful sunlight as the rays beam down on my face. The wind blowing through my hair and the great, green trees. Birds flying, nature in action.

The 4 of us stood in silence, staring at the hills and flowers ahead of us. The sun had just risen, shining brightly upon the village in the distance. It was beautiful. Even Luna was taken back by view.

My thought train was interrupted by Meeko, who tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a newly written page from his notebook:

I haven't seen the outside world since the year 64. I was born then.

I glare at his handwriting in shock. This was the first time Meeko has seen the outside...this must be so strange for him.

I could tell by Luna and Isabelle's expressions that they also saw the note. The 3 of us have been trapped underground for years, missing the morning sun, when Meeko was stuck there not even knowing what it looked or felt like to be out in the open like this. If I didn't save him, he would never have known.

"Hey," Luna spoke up, leaning her hand on Meeko's shoulder, "How bout we go over to that village in the distance and give Meeko a taste of the world, hm?"

The 4 of us looked toward the small population ahead, all determined in our own ways.

Then, just like that, we took a step forward once again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We all halted in unison as we reached an oak signpost, reading "TAGAMI VILLAGE". It was a small area of huddled buildings make of white concrete and spruce posts, decorated in lanterns, ivy and hanging plant pots. To the left were a few facilities along with a living quarters in the distance. To the right were some shops and markets as well a church building. Then straight ahead was an overgrown path leading to a huge farm.
Overall, the place was aesthetically pleasing in a way. You would think there would be people around the facilities, or shopping around the markets, but there was nobody in sight.
"Where are all the citizens at?" Luna asked, just as confused as I was.
"Maybe this place is abandoned after all..." Isabelle sighed, disappointed.
"The markets look freshly stocked, and there are bikes outside that building there..." I point out, "This makes no sense..."
"Let's go check these out then, maybe we can find someone hiding or sumthin'." Luna suggested, making her way to the market area.
I took a step forward, before being interrupted by a huge bang and explosion.
"What the-!?" Isabelle yelled, alarmed by the sudden impact of what seemed to be a weak bomb.
Luna was flung back, hitting the ground, coughing. "Where the fuck did that come from?!"
Luna brushed herself off, before standing up to be faced with a red haired stranger, wearing a welcoming grin on her face, despite the current situation.
"You okay?"
"You okay?"
