On a cloudy afternoon, Benjamin Fairest napped peacefully on a worn yoga mat under a tattered canopy in a local junkyard. The past few days have been taxing on him and his lover, Pico N. Grounds, as they have still been couch surfing to meet their sheltering needs. And while Pico had gained a lot of experience since dropping out of high school, Benjamin was still getting used to the nomadic lifestyle.
A few moments later, Benjamin slowly opened his eyes from his well-deserved rest when he saw Pico crouching by the other corner of the canopy with an unusually melancholy look. Benjamin rubbed his eyes and saw that he was holding a worn-out photograph, but he couldn't yet decipher the image without a closer look. He then slowly sat up and approached his lover to investigate.
"Toughie..." Benjamin meekly peeped.
Pico quickly broke from his solemn trance and turned to see that his blue-haired lover had awoken from his nap.
"Oh..." Pico mumbled, "You're awake...."
Benjamin then noticed the image imprinted in the photograph Pico was holding in his hand. The image consisted of Pico and a lady with plum-colored hair wearing a black slouch beanie with a golden crescent moon and a white bandana with a black "no" symbol similar to Pico's black "x" bandana. He then noticed that the photograph was slightly marred by tear stains.
"Wh-...Who's that?" Benjamin asked his misty-eyed lover.
Pico took a deep breath to prepare to explain.
"I'm not sure how you'd feel about this but..." Pico hesitated. "She was... someone close."
"A lover?" Benjamin asked. "Before us of course..."
"I...guess you could say that." Pico solemnly replied"Pico gently took off his left glove, revealing a strange tattoo on the back of his bare hand and a silver band on his ring finger.
"Is that a-" Benjamin began, with Pico nodding soon after. "W-where is she now?"
Pico swallowed the feelings as he struggled to utter the words. Tears began to lightly flow down his face once more."She's gone..."
Benjamin took a moment to digest what his lover had just uttered.
"I... I'm so sorry" he meekly replied, with tears beginning to run down his own face.___
