"Dabi. We need to talk," Hawks said, pacing back and forth in his living room of his very large and very expensive penthouse apartment. His home was silent and empty besides where the hero was currently walking back and forth. Looking down at his arm that had a countdown going on. It had one hour. It was like a black tattoo, but was moving. The numbers looked to be in comic sans font, which didn't exactly match with the dread it made him feel.
It was 2 AM, and the villain was understandably frustrated with being woken up. He groaned, sleep and angry palpable in his voice. "What did you do now?"
"I got hit by a quirk from a villain. Well, not even a villain, just a small time criminal," Hawks replied. Maybe Dabi heard the worry in his voice as Hawks heard a creaky mattress shift and a breath let out as he heard the man sit up in his bed, wherever that was. Hawks never went to his place, Dabi always broke into his to chill and use his expensive kitchen.
"And? What does it have to do with me? Or are you calling just to vent?" the fire user asked, sounding less sleepy and annoyed but more wary and suspicious. He had to be able to tell it was serious based on Hawks' voice. There was no light heartedness in it, no teasing. Even though Dabi was infinitely easy to tease and annoy, even in bed.
They were frenemy fuckbuddies right now. Neither fully trusted the other besides anything having to do with their fuckbuddy status. "The quirk activates with the last person to have fucked. Which is you. The countdown on my arm is now at fifty minutes. We're gonna go through each other's memories in less than an hour."
"WHAT?!" Dabi shouted. Hawks knew he had a past he didn't want to be known, but Hawks did, too. He didn't have a cheerful upbringing, and having Dabi see everything from his murderous father and abusive mother to the way the Commission raised him, was not ideal. There would possibly be so much confidential information regarding his work that it could have huge repercussions.
"I'm not happy about it either. I have a lot of things I don't want you to see, too. But the guy refuses to get rid of it. So I was thinking you could come here and it would be the safest for both of us." Dabi swore furiously on the other side of the call, but Hawks could hear him tearing apart his room for clothes.
He said, "I'm honestly very sorry."
Dabi did seem surprised by his heartfelt words, more sincere than most of the things he said otherwise. He truly was apologetic for dragging him into this. "I'll be there soon, fuck face."
"Try not to die in a ditch, I don't know what would happen if you died," Hawks said, and hung up. But he didn't stop pacing. He eventually put his phone in the charger and got a backpack with some food and water inside. He got his medications he took at night and put them in there as well. Who knew how long they'd be there?
The villain showed up pretty quickly, coming through the front door this time. He was smart and brought a backpack of his own. They looked at each other for a long moment, and then both went to the couch. "What did you pack?"
"Burn cream, medication, snacks," Dabi said. "You?"
"Meds, food and water. Wanna charge your phone?" He already held up a fully charged phone. Hawks looked at his arm. 26 minutes left. "Whatever we see, we're not allowed to tell anybody else, no matter what it is. I also packed some xanax. In case PTSD starts or some shit."
"I don't have PTSD, you asshole. Seeing some memories ain't gonna do shit for me. You're not allowed to comment on any family issues that come up, got it?" Dabi looked tired. It was early. Well, late. Still too late to be considered morning. Hawks huffed.
But he agreed. "You can't make anything you see public. Especially childhood stuff." He hoped Dabi didn't think Hawks had a perfect childhood based on the position he was in. Honestly, he'd blocked out a lot of the things the Commission did to him because he didn't want to think about it when nothing would change.
