Tick, tick, tick, tick, I sat in the waiting room of the hospital waiting for my name to be called. It had been forty-five minutes and 37 seconds and counting. The fabric of the chair rubbed against my rough fingers and I could hear the doctors walking throughout the halls. Babies were crying. I tried not to focus on that and just fill out the sheet they gave me but the ticking and the chair and the walking through the halls and those stupid babies crying! God could they stop! I turned to my mother,

¨Can I have my headphones?¨

She handed me them and I put them into my ears letting out a sigh of relief. I looked at the wall and within seconds the doctors called my name "Cora" I took out my headphones and handed them to my mother, stood up, and walked over to the nurse. She slid the door open to the room I would be sitting in and waved her hand to the bed. I took a seat and zoned out waiting for a doctor to see me. About 20 minutes later a Brunette lady who looked about 30 walked into the room in her navy blue scrubs. I always found it cool that they wore blue scrubs because the color blue is meant to evoke feelings of trust, and dependability and eases anxiety yet I couldn't be more nervous. Today was the day I found out if something was wrong with me. The next 4 hours involved stupid and tedious questions. Things no one needed to know about me and things anyone could tell just by glancing at me. I still answered them perfectly. My mom had told me before I came in here

"Do not lie to the doctor no matter what, ok Cora?"

"Ok mom"

She doesn't know me well if she thinks I would lie to the doctor and besides even if I wanted to I couldn't I'm terrible at lying. I mean I guess my mom doesn't know a lot about me. She doesn't know about the parties I go to, The times I've snuck out, and she especially doesn't know about my girlfriend Avolon. Avolon is the most amazing girl I know. She is a real-life fairytale. My mom isn't homophobic or anything but if I told her I know she wouldn't look at us the same.

"Ok, Cora you're all set to leave now. We'll see you in a few days with your results!"

"Uh-huh"

I walked back to my mother and saw her soft, pale hands crossed on her lap, almost searching my face for answers.

"well what did they say?"

¨Umm we'll get the results in a few days we just have to come back and pick them up.¨

¨Ok Hunny"

I smiled at her half and turned to the doors of the hospital, slipping my hands into the sleeves of my sweatshirt to avoid the cold metal. I walked to the car, my hair blowing into my eyes and mouth from the cold wind. My mom unlocked the car and I opened the door to sit down. I buckled my seat while she backed up pulling out of the parking lot. She drove me to school, dropping me off at the main doors. Was I four hours late? What period was this? 1,2,3,4... NO, IT'S THE FIFTH HOUR.

I dropped my stuff off in my locker and walked to science. I walked into that class looking half dead. My girlfriend, well she looked perfect as always! Her long hair fell onto her face and the little strands that always flowed freely out were pinned back with pink clips she had found in my closet earlier that week. She had black jeans and a crop top on. Typical. We made eye contact as I walked over to her.

¨where were you?¨

¨doctors¨

¨oh ok, are you ok?¨

I nodded and looked at the paper that Mr. Rogers slammed onto the table

The next three days flew by super fast. There was nothing special going on but I stayed busy. On Thursday I woke to my mom calling my name.
