"We've gotta outsmart him. I know he may suspect a plan, but we need to try. Harry and Izzy are going to go back to the pack, since the members will be expecting them, then they'll see if the resistance is still up and we'll go from there."
"Damn, where have you been this whole time?"
"Shut up."
"I think it's a good idea, I'll go tell the others."
Then it's just Tyler and I. After yesterday, I've been included in all the meetings, but this time with only Tyler and Quinn. The three of us have been coming up with plans all morning - or, they have and I just listened - before just now when I decided to speak up. I hoped everyone else would be okay with the plan.
"May? What are you thinking about?" Tyler asks me gently. He's been nothing but sweet and kind since our agreement. I know it's killing his wolf to submit to me, but I'm glad he is.
"Not much. Mostly I'm worried about sending Harry and Izzy back alone. I don't want to lose my best friend." I tell him truthfully.
"You know, you really are a great Luna. I've never seen someone adapt so quickly and come up with ideas like you do. And even in the plan, you try to get the least amount of damage, and you might not even know it. You want to send Haz and Izzy back, but the pack won't let them die, so Mark can't do anything to them. You care, an you're smart."
"Maybe he can't hurt them in front of the pack, but what if he hides them in the basement and tell everybody they left for a romantic get away or something!" I panic.
Before Tyler can say anything, the rest of the group stomps in and sits. I open my mouth to speak, but Harry bursts out, "I will not allow Isobel to go back. And I'm not saying that because she's a girl, but because I love her and I refuse to let her get hurt." I can see Harry's wolf in his eyes, and I'm nervous because if he shifts, everyone - even the Alphas - could be hurt.
"Look, Haz, I hate sending Izzy back, but I cannot allow my pack to worry about the Alpha's sister. I will do everything in my power to keep her safe-"
"That's just it! You don't have any power! You're sending your best friend into a war zone with only me to protect her, and if I can't, she's done!" Harry screams at me. I take a step back, scared, and Izzy comes to my defense.
"Honestly! I can fight for myself!"
"I realize that, but against three or four of the best warriors you. will. lose." Harry growls. He starts to shift, and we all back away. I gesture to Charlie and Izzy, and we all move to the door. Tyler, Quinn, and Marius all move up, hoping to block him. He sees us all move to defend ourselves, and gets a guilty look on his face. The fur on his face and his nails retract, and his eyes look human again. He storms past all of us and leaves the room.
I gaze at my friends in the room, and sigh.
"Give him time. For now, let's work on the plan."
******
That night, I can hear Harry and Izzy in their room, talking. I wait for Tyler to come back from his run so I can actually get some sleep. I'm facing the wall when I hear the door open. Someone walks to the bed and sits down, but doesn't lay done. I turn my head to ask Tyler what was wrong, only to be met by Marius's face.
"Marius! What the h-e-double hockey sticks are you doing here!" I yell.
"Sorry, sorry I just really needed to talk to you. Do you have a minute?"
"I guess, but you better hurry, Tyler will be back soon."
"Well, I actually need to show you. But it's right outside. Two minutes?" Marius pleads with me.
"Fine, but if Tyler decides to kill you I will not stop him." I tell him.
"Deal.
We walk outside and into the woods. Right inside the forest, he stops me, and sets me against a tree.
"Marius, what are you doing?" I ask nervously.
"Something that needed to be done a long time ago. I'm joining the right side." He tells me before walking away, leaving me flabbergasted. I try to follow him, but he growls and I go back to the tree. He's a warrior, and could probably snap me like a twig in three seconds.
I hear running coming from the direction of my pack, and the pieces click. Marius is betraying us, and giving me back to Mark. And I liked that creep! I can't believe I let this happen!
"You got her?"
"Yep, and I doubt she'll be much of a problem. The girl couldn't fight to save her life."
"Ha! I like you boy! I want you to come up with something about her that does not involve me, and you'll be my new beta. "
I hear a rustling behind me, but before I can turn, something hits me in the head.
The last thing I hear is laughing, familiar and not.
