I'm pretty sure my mouth has been hanging open for at least an hour. I'm not sure why I've never been here before. I mean, the Alpha's sister is my best friend, but she never brought me here.
I think I'm in the Alpha's office, but I'm not sure, because I haven't been here before. The room is huge and beautiful. The walls are a polished oak, and there's a navy blue rug in the middle of the room. The desk is very sloppy, but still beautiful. There's a huge window on one of the walls, with a great view of the Pack house garden.
"Ms. Collick? Ms. Collick? Are you paying any attention to us?" I can tell the second-in-command is getting annoyed with me.
"Yes, sorry. It's just a lot to take in. It's not every day you get asked to go look for your Alpha. I mean, I guess there is someone being asked everyday, cause, you know, it's been six months. But I meant I'm not asked everyday-"
"Ms. Collick, you're rambling." The old Alpha gives me a smile.
"Sorry. And please, call me May. It's weird hearing my Alpha call me miss."
"He is not your Alpha!" The second-in-command roars. Oh yeah, he was best friends with Tyler.
"Ms. Collick, please come with me." The second-in-command asks me, calmly, espacially for a werewolf who lost his temper.
The two of us get up, walking out of the office. I can feel the old Alpha's eyes on us, but I choose to ignore it. I follow Harry (the second-in-command), who leads me down the stairs and to what I think is his room.
"I apologize for shouting at you. Calling Mark your alpha is a touchy subject right now."
"What do you mean?"
"Ms Collick, have you found your mate?"
"I don't see what that has to do with anything. And really, it's none of your business." I know I'm blushing. A mate is a werewolf's other half. They are the most important thing to you. You're supposed to find him/her when you turn eighteen, but I haven't yet.
"This is a very important part of the story. If you don't tell me, I can always make you." Harry tells me, looking all innocent.
His rank is higher than mine, so I wouldn't be able to resist telling him.
"Fine, no I haven't. Are you happy?" I glare at him, mad that I had to share such an embarrassing tidbit of my life.
"Thank you. Now, you haven't found him yet, but on your birthday, you felt a pull, didn't you? Not only that, but you felt someone in your head. Am I correct?"
"Um, yeah, but how did you know?" I hadn't told anyone that. Not even my best friend.
"I'm going to tell you something, and you have to keep this a secret, okay?"
"Fine."
"The Alpha, as you know, is 21. Three years ago, he should have found his mate. He didn't, which was odd, because he is the Alpha and needs his mate. Lots of people thought that his mate had died before reaching eighteen. Others brought their daughters to him, wanting them to be his mate. None of them were. There was talk of an arranged marrige, but Tyler refused. I confronted him, wanting to know what was up. He was acting strange, and pushed everyone away. He told me that nothing was wrong. That I was paranoid. I wouldn't give up. I was an annoying little thing. He finally broke down and told me he knew who my mate was. I was excited for him. I asked him who it was, but he was hesitant. I pulled the best friend card, telling him that we promised to tell each other everything. He edged into it, giving me hints: she was in our pack, she was younger, she was beautiful, even before the mating pull was activated. I couldn't guess, thinking she would only be a year younger. So he told me. "Her name is May." I had no idea who you were, so I looked you up. And he was right, you were beautiful. And young. Here you were, fifeteen years old, best friends with Tyler's little sister.'
