The sky is red.
Well, it's really more of an orange mixed with pink and yellow, but you feel like being dramatic. You deserve to be, you've just had such a hard day of training. You made Diane promise to train you in martial arts, but honestly you kind of regret it. She can be super strict and does not go easy on you. Your entire body is covered in bruises and aches terribly.
So right now you're just laying on a grass-covered hill, staring up at the sunset to try and distract yourself from the pain. You've always loved the sunset, the way the sky's colors twist and bend.
You can feel the ground moving a little and can hear the grass parting. You don't move, assuming that it's just a little animal like a squirrel.
Suddenly the head of your boyfriend, Marc Snake, pops above yours.
"Hey," he smiles kindly.
"...Hey."
"You okay?"
"Yep, just training."
He nods and slithers down next to you. You prop yourself up on your elbow to look at him.
"So, what are you doing?" He asks.
"You know, just relaxing."
"Huh," he nods again. You lay back down on your back and stare up at the sky. "The sky's pretty."
"Yeah, I love the sunset," you sigh. "It reminds me of when I was younger. I used to go into the backyard whenever my parents would fight and lose myself in the sky. The swirling sky helped me forget about all my worries."
You can feel him staring at you. You turn onto your side and gaze into his eyes. He smiles softly.
You can't resist the urge to do something to try and lighten the mood. You reach forward and bop him on his nose. "Boop."
He chuckles and reaches his tail up, bopping you lightly on the nose. "Boop." You grin and gently grab his tail. He wraps it around your hand, giving it a light squeeze.
"Hey, Marc?" You start.
"Yes?"
"Um, do you ever wish you had limbs? Well, besides a tail."
He thinks for a moment, "when I was younger I did."
"Not anymore?"
"Not anymore. I have everything I could ever want right here. I'm happy with who I am. Though I do wonder what it's like to be able to drive."
You laugh, "yeah, having arms and legs makes driving so, so much easier."
"What about you?"
"Hm?"
"Do you wish you weren't, you know."
"Sometimes."
He nods. You stare back up at the sky. A few peaceful minutes pass before you can bring yourself to ask something.
"Hey, Marc?"
"Mhm?"
"Can you, uh," you clear your throat, slightly embarrassed, "can you cuddle me?"
"Oh, er, sure! Just to warn you, I don't have arms so..."
You giggle, "it doesn't matter. Do whatever!"
"Alright," he shrugs, "sit up please." You sit up, slightly confused. "Arms up." You do what he says.
He unexpectedly wraps around your chest and you let out a small squeak of surprise. He chuckles, "you can lay back down." You do.
Marc rests his head on the top of your chest and wiggles his eyebrows playfully, "hey."
You giggle, "hey."
"So, any reason for this cuddle-fest?"
"Not really. Just kind of wanted to do some more, er, softer stuff with you."
"Well, I am such a soft person."
"Oh yeah, the softest. Especially in that unicorn onesie," you joke.
"Hey," he pouts slightly.
"Sorry," you laugh. He grins and chuckles softly.
You both don't talk anymore, you just lay in silence, enjoying each other's company. And within a few minutes, you fall asleep.
