"What's the one thing you miss the most?"
I sigh, "Chocolate. It's either that or American Horror Story." Oh gosh, Evan Peters is so hot. *fangirls*
Luke chuckles, "Music. It's the one thing I miss the most in the world."
For the last thirty minutes, we have been playing twenty questions. I had to beg Luke to play, considering the fact that he's closed off from most of humanity. After a while, he had agreed. So we have been floating on our backs for a while now.
I had found out a lot about Luke. I knew that his full name was Lucas Cole Michaels and that he was seventeen years old. His favorite color was blue, his favorite food was taco pizza, and his favorite number is seven. He had gotten his lip pierced two years ago, which his parents hated.
I racked my brain for questions. I had asked almost everything I had wanted to know about him. "Umm. Do you have any tattoos?"
He smiles one of his half smiles. "Yeah, I have two."
My eyes widen in excitement, "Really?" I've always wanted a tattoo, but my parents never let me get one.
Luke smirks, "Yeah, maybe one day you'll be lucky enough to see it."
Okay, he ruined the moment. "No thanks, I would rather slam my tongue in a car door."
He mocks hurt. By now, it was sunset, so Grant was probably worried about us. "We should probably go."
He sighs but nods his head. We had headed pretty far out from our laundry, so it was going to take a minute to head back up there. Of course, Luke was ahead of me, so I was going as fast as I could to keep up with him.
All of a sudden, I feel my sweat pants fall off of me. Oh hell no. I desperately start searching for them, but it's no use. "Luke," Oh god, this is embarrassing. "I, umm, I lost my pants."
He stops dead in the water and starts to slowly turn around. I could tell that he was biting his lip to restrain himself from laughing at me.
I felt my cheeks redden with embarrassment. "It's not funny! I was swimming fast to try and keep up with your stupid ass and they fell off. I can't find them!" After that, he started laughing.
And I'm not talking about a small chuckle, but a full on Nobody-Do-Anything-I'm-About-To-Pee-My-Pants kind of laugher. It was infuriating. I started swimming once again, while thinking of something I could wear for the night.
By the time Luke was done laughing, he had easily caught up to me, but this time he was swimming at my pace. "When we get close enough, I'll hand you something to wear until we get back to camp. Okay?
I nod. We were now about ten feet away from the rock that we were sitting on earlier, so he swam up to it and hoists himself up. He grabs the first thing that he sees, which just so happens to be a pair of his boxer-short thingies that guys always wear. Curse him.
He throws them and they land directly in front of me, splashing my face with water. Okay, that was slightly disturbing. I sigh, well, at least they were clean, right? I quickly put them on and swim towards the rock, and Luke helps me up.
He puts his knife back in his pocket while scanning me up and down. "Nice clothes." Well, I did look like a mess. My hair was all over the place, not to mention the fact that I was wearing a wet tank top and boxer shorts.
I scowl at him, "Shut up." He didn't look any better than I did. His clothes were dripping wet and his hair was matted down to his forehead. He looked lovely. Note the sarcasm.
Once we had each grabbed a basket of clothes, we made our way back to land. (Okay, I may be acting a little over dramatic.) Somehow, we had managed to keep the clothes dry. Well, damp.
I started to trudge my way back to camp when Luke takes my hand. It wasn't surprising to me anymore, since he did it all the time. But that doesn't stop the warm tingling feeling I get every time he does. Okay, wow. I need to shut up.
Then, we were on our way. We didn't come into contact with any walkers, but we could hear them in the distance. Their growling seemed to bounce off of the trees, which made it even creepier.
************************************
The first thing I saw when we reached camp was Lisa sitting on an old picnic table, reading a book. She must have sensed us coming because she had looked up the second we came within ten feet of her.
You could see the gears turning in her head when she saw us, immediately jumping to conclusions.
"Did you guys-? I mean, it doesn't bother me, but it seems unsafe to do it out in the open."
At first, I was confused, but then I realized what we had meant. Of course she would think that!
We were both sweaty from walking and our clothes were all wet and muddy. My hair was tangled and sticking up in all directions, while Luke's hair was messy and matted down on his forehead. Not to mention the fact that I was wearing HIS boxer shorts AND we were holding hands.
I widened my eyes, "Oh god, no! We didn't have sex! Eww, no! We were washing clothes then we went swimming, and then I kind of lost my pants..." I trailed off. "But my point is that we didn't.... You know..... Do..that. And... Yeah." The whole time I was explaining, Luke was laughing at me.
I smacked the back of his head, shutting him up immediately. Lisa laughed. "I believe you, don't worry."
I grumbled angrily under my breath and started to walk over to the fire. Since Luke refused to let go of my hand, he had no choice but to follow me. I was beyond over it. I was wet and cold and grumpy and I wanted nothing more than to go back to our camp and sleep in Luke's arms.
Eww what the hell? I really need to shut up.
When we had finally made our way to the fire, we received weird looks. Linda was the first one to recover from our little 'entrance', and she handed me and Luke each a plate of food. She also took the laundry baskets away, but I didn't really care. It wasn't until now that I realized just how hungry I was.
We both started gobbling down our food, neither of us even a slight bit worried about manors. What can I say? We were two teenagers who hasn't eaten all day. Of course we would act like pigs.
Once I was finished with my food, I felt once again well-nourished and slightly sleep deprived. Grant had tried multiple times to get us to talk, but we were both too tired. Linda came back a few minutes later and handed me a pair of clothes.
"They're Lisa's." I nodded in thanks and she smiled at me.
I went behind Grant's tent and stripped out of my now dirty clothes, and I put on my fresh ones. Linda had even been so kind as to give me a pair of underwear and a bra. I slipped those on and put on the plain white t-shirt and the black pajama shorts. I put my shoes back on and walked out.
Once I sat down, Luke went behind the tent. Grant must have found him clothes. I listened to the small talk that the adults made, not really paying attention to anything that they were saying. I didn't even notice Luke until he sat down next to me.
"Hey, we're gonna go to bed. Charlie looks like she's going to pass out any second." Luke says. I hear somebody chuckle, but I pay no mind to it.
Luke wraps an arm around my shoulders and I lean into him. God, he's so freaking warm! I could probably fall asleep right now if I wanted to.
The weirdest idea came to my head, "Luke, will you carry me?"
"What?"
"Will you carry me? I'm tired. Like, really, really, tired."
He sighs, but stops and turns to me. He suddenly lifts me up princess style, as if I weigh nothing. I bury my head in the crook of his neck, too tired to try and object.
I fell asleep while he was holding me.
