[y/n] slowly blinks open his eyes, bright lights shining in his eyes. he lifts his hand above his eyes to protect his vision until he can adjust, slowly sitting up. he takes a glance around him, finding himself in a medical room with three other people: a woman with long, beautiful brown hair, a man with nearly black hair, and the familiar white haired teen gojou satoru.
gojou's eyes were fixed on [y/n]'s form through the black sunglasses, [y/n] returning the stare silently. he could hear the two adults in the room speaking to each other quietly, probably about him.
after a few more seconds, [y/n] tore his gaze away from gojou, turning instead to the woman who was dressed in a lab coat. she happened to turn her head at the same time, her face pulling up in a smile when their gazes met.
"[l/n] [y/n], right? you can call me miss ai. i'm the medical assistant here at tokyo's jujutsu specialty high school. would you mind answering a few questions for me, or do you need a little more time to wake up?" as she spoke, the man next to her had turned to also look at [y/n], meaning everyone in the room was looking at the [h/c] boy.
"i guess that's fine.. what kind of questions are they?"
"just a few questions regarding that curse you encountered at your school." [y/n]'s eyebrows furrowed a little in confusion. curse? maybe that's what that thing was called. "how long have you been able to see curses?"
[y/n] didn't need much thought to answer the question, it being pretty simple in his mind. "i guess i've just always been able to."
"is there anybody in your family who can see curses?"
[y/n] shakes his head, adjusting his sitting position so his legs hang off the table as he faces the woman. "no. my parents never believed me. you know, that whole 'monster under your bed' being a myth.. i always saw them at school, too. i didn't think anyone else could see them and i was just weird or something."
miss ai smiled softly and shook her head. "no, you're not the only one. everyone here can see them." she then continued her questions, taking a couple steps closer to [y/n]. "have you ever interacted with a curse before?"
[y/n] needed to take a moment for this question, shuffling through the memories he held, especially those from his childhood. "i guess i tried one time when i was younger. in the hospital visiting my grandfather while i was in the hall, i saw it. i didn't get the chance, though, because my mother pulled me away to go to his hospital room."
"this is the last question i have for you: what do you know about curses?"
"it's those weird things that are always in the corner of some rooms or hanging onto someone's shoulder, right? i'm not really sure where they come from, but i see them a lot at school or in the hospital when i'd visit my grandfather."
the man finally spoke up, taking a couple steps towards [y/n]. "curses are the physical form of negative emotions, like anger, hatred, or fear. sadness. anxiety. the stronger or more common the emotion is, the bigger the curse is going to be. the curse that was at your school was a large curse that probably formed from the stress students felt of a new school year starting."
"our job as jujutsu sorcerers is to exorcise these curses." gojou finally spoke up. [y/n] turned his attention back to the white haired male, realizing the teen had been staring at him for a little while now.
"yes. the people who are able to see these curses are usually those who have a cursed technique. this can be honed and perfected to help with the exorcising of these curses to help non-curse users live safer in society."
"wait, so.. a sorcerer will use a curse to exorcise other curses?" [y/n] tilted his head, his eyebrows furrowing again in confusion.
"sort of. gojou, care to demonstrate?" the man turned to face the white haired teen who shrugged in response, rising from his seat on one of the other tables in the medical room.
gojou approaches [y/n], his hands shoved in his pockets until he stopped right in front of him. he lifted his hand, a small smirk tugging at his lips. "try to touch me."
[y/n] stares at gojou's hand for a moment before slowly lifting his hand and moving it towards gojou's hand. he blinks in surprise when it stops moving forward a short distance away from the white haired teen's palm, pressing forward a little harder.
"this is part of my cursed technique. it's known as infinity. it makes things move slower when they come within a certain distance of me. in a sense, repelling you right now."
"and everyone has a different technique?"
gojou's smirk grows into a cocky grin, his head nodding as he pushes his hand towards [y/n]'s, closing the gap and interlocking their fingers. "exactly! you probably have one, too, since you can see curses~!"
"families tend to pass down their techniques as well. the zen'in clan, for instance, has the ten shadows technique."
"so.. if i have a cursed technique, how would i find out?"
"it's different for everyone." miss ai chimes in. "some people can figure it out by simply trying to activate it. others are taught by other sorcerers. and then there's those who find out while fighting a curse. tokyo's jujutsu specialty high school is meant to help young sorcerers become stronger via instruction from more experienced sorcerers. like mister yaga. he's the second year teacher." she gestures her hand towards the man next to her, finally giving [y/n] a name to go with the face.
"if you've got a reason to be a sorcerer, mister yaga could teach you everything you need. you might even get my help~!" gojou exclaimed, his hand lightly squeezing [y/n]'s hand before letting go.
[y/n] quietly stared at gojou before turning his head to yaga, slowly nodding. "i want to be a sorcerer."
"are you sure? there's a lot of things that you have to see as a jujutsu sorcerer. it's a completely new world from how you've been living for so many years. you won't be able to save everyone, and you may reach a day where you have to watch somebody you care about die in battle. your teachers can't save you from that even while you remain a student."
[y/n] responded with a more confident nod, staring yaga in the eyes. "i would be able to save people, though. even if it isn't everyone, some is better than none. more people would die if i were to go on how i've been for 16 years than if i were to learn how to protect them."
gojou grinned widely once again, slinging his arm over [y/n]'s shoulders and leaning against the table the [h/c] male was sitting on.
"welcome to jujutsu tech, [l/n]!"
