"Crub," I heard Kaylee hiss.
Kaylee and I froze in our tracks. I felt a big lump in my throat, but I did not dare swallow. Kaylee and I did not dare move. I broke out in a cold sweat despite just how chilly it was. My heart skipped a beat. My belly twisted into a knot. I felt like puking.
I wished to rush over to Isabella and her rotten friends and throw up on them. It is not right to do, I know. But they deserve it. It is way past time for the morons to be taught a lesson. Their parents will obviously not raise a finger, so it is up to me and Kaylee.
But unknown to us, a third person would assist us with our plan - for the worst.
I chose to not puke on Isabella, Taylor, and Daisy. Had I done so, the bullying would have gotten worse for me and Kaylee. And their parents - and mine - would have chewed me out, and I would have been grounded. How sad that bullies have more protection than the victims. If a bully assaults you, there are no repercussions. Now if a victim puts up a fight - or tries to - bam! Detention, suspension, or expelled follow.
Do schools want to help make the world an eviler place or what? So what is the point of school? It is worthless. Learning loads of junk that you will not use in your life while slowly dying at the hands of stress. Wish that the real world schools were like the Forlot school.
I could no longer take the lump stuck in my throat and finally swallowed it. I wanted to run and not look back. Run back to the safety of the beach. But I was afraid. If the girls did not spot me and Kaylee, they surely would once we started running.
My head was turned to those troublemakers, so I could easily see them. Isabella walked straight - towards us. I was wrong. I hoped that they saw something way more appealing. But I was wrong. Now Isabella was about to give us heck.
But Isabella stopped inches away from us. "Ha! I knew it!" She bent down and picked up a small, white object. "I told you that this is a stone." She turned around and raised the stone high above her head. She strolled back to Taylor and Daisy.
I wanted to utter a sigh of relief, but I did not want any of them to get the chance to spot me and Kaylee.
"Should we run?" Kaylee whispered.
"No," I whispered back. "They will hear us and see us if we do." I motioned to the left. "Let us sneak over there. We will run when we are in the darkness."
"Got it."
We turned and quickly tiptoed to said darkness caused by the trees blocking the purple skies. Then we ran fast like a cheetah. I had both fists clenched while swinging my arms back and forth. A few vibrant leaves crunched underneath our feet. We did not stop until we were out of the forest. I was catching my breath and slapped my hands on my knees. I forced myself to look back at said forest to see if our enemies had followed us. Nope. I let out a huge sigh of relief. We were safe.
Unfortunately, we would not be safe for long. We could not be safe even in our own homes now.
"Good news," I said. "They did not follow us."
Kaylee was sitting with her legs out in front of her. She was wiping what I assumed was sweat off her forehead and arms. Her eyebrows narrowed. "Second-best news that I have heard."
I straightened up and ran both hands through my hair. "What is the best?"
"The best will be when those horrible girls move faaaar away from here."
"I wish, but how can it be the best news when it has yet to happen?"
She looked up at me and crossed her fingers. "I am just keeping my fingers crossed that they move sooner than later."
"Amen to that." I held out a hand for her to take. "How about we forget them and the graveyard and search for shells and other goodies? Or maybe build a sandcastle. I do not care what we do as long as we do it faaar away from here."
She grabbed my hand, and I helped her to her feet. She dusted off her bottom. "Building a sandcastle would be great right about now."
We started walking back to the beach.
"What kind of sandcastle should we build?" I asked.
"Uh...a sandcastle. What else?"
That got a giggle from me. "No. I mean, will it be small or huge? Will it have seashells or a moat?"
Kaylee stretched her arms above her head. "We should build the biggest sandcastle ever like we promised. Are you in the mood to tackle that?"
"We have nothing else to do today, so yes. Let us create the biggest sandcastle that the world has ever seen!"
We raced back to the beach and decided to change into swimsuits. It was warm on the beach. Our clothes were already clinging to our skin. We ran to our homes.
I hurried to my bedroom and shut my door behind me. I threw open my closet doors and pulled a swimsuit off a hanger. Seconds later, I was in my swimsuit. I got my pail from a top shelf within said closet. The shovel was in the pail. I closed the doors and was about to leave.
"Huh?"
That is when I saw something unusual from the corner of my eye. Something that was not supposed to be here - on my nightstand. I faced my nightstand and gasped.
It was the scarf and gloves from the graveyard.
How the heck did they get here?
I grabbed them. "Kaylee! We have a problem!"
