•Y/N's pov:
I sit in the VW, bored out of my mind. Richard is pitching his business to Frank, Frank too looks bored. Frank is slouched over and barely moving, Richard on the other hand is full sell mode.
"So I start pitching "The Winner Inside" to Stan... Two minutes in, he stops me, says "I can sell this. ''" Richard explains.
"Mhm, interesting." Frank says, looking out the window.
"This is the guy who broke Tony Robbins! He knows how to do it -- start with the book; media tour; then corporate events; consulting, videos series, direct buys on TV... There's a science in how you roll these things out." Richard tells Frank.
"Interesting!" Frank exclaims, much to Richards delight.
"So now he's at the Expo in Atlanta--he's been hyping it up, building the buzz he's gonna send it out, do a ticking clock auction." Richard explains...again.
"How about that!" Frank yells sarcastically, causing me to stifle a laugh.
"And I can detect that note of sarcasm in your voice, Frank." Richard says, I look at Dwayne and make a puppet out of my hand.
Whenever Richard talks a lot of shit, I usually do this, like whenever Richard and Sheryl argue at the Hoover's household to try and make Dwayne feel a bit better when they argue over his flight school. Dwayne offers a small smile and places his head on my shoulder.
"Because sarcasm is the refuge of losers" I hear Richard say, I roll my eyes.
"It is?! Really?!" Frank retorts sarcastically, making me smile at the uncle.
"Sarcasm is just the sour grapes of losers trying to pull winners down to their level. That's one of the lessons of Step Four." Richard says, I groan, catching Dwayne's attention. He gives me a weird look. I motion at his step dad and uncle. He just nods.
"Wow, Richard! You've really opened my eyes to what a loser I am! Say, how much do I owe you for those pearls of wisdom?" This makes me giggle, causing Richard to get angrier and Frank to smirk.
"Oh it's on me buddy. It's on me." Richard states, causing Sheryl to get enough of this arguing.
"Okay, you guys, that's enough. Frank, stop it." Sheryl mediates, only to smack Franks shoulder with her left hand.
Frank points at Richards head, and I instantly know he's going to say-
"He started it!" Franks yells, making me giggle louder and Dwayne to smile with his head down. Sheryl laughs a bit and hits Frank again, this time making Frank chuckle.
We drive for a few more minutes, no sound, no talking. Just the silence as we drive down the road. That is until an annoying beeping goes off.
"There! That's the call I've been waiting for!" Richard yells, digging around in his pockets to try and find his cellular device. Richard finally flips it open and presses a button.
"Stan! Hello...? Hello?! Hello?!" Richard yells, only to, I'm assuming, not get a response.
Richard starts to speed a bit faster after he hangs up and closes his flip phone.
"Richard! Slow down!" Sheryl yells. I hear Olive giggle as we curve into a driveway for a convenience store.
Once we finally park I look at everyone to see them all frazzled, that is except for Olive who just had the time of her life. Richard unbuckles his belt and bolts out the car to go to a phone booth over by the store. I exit to stretch my legs and Dwayne soon follows, bringing his book with. We find a nice green patch of grass and I take the book out of his hands and motion towards the ground.
"Do some push up, I'll sit on your back while I read to ya." I explain, he just shrugs and crouches on the ground and eventually lays in a plank position, offering for me to sit on his back. I do so and cross my legs once I sit on top of him.
I flip through his copy of 'THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA' and find the page he was on last.
"But the worst enemy you can meet will always be yourself; you lie in wait for yourself in caverns and forests. Lonely one, you are going the way to yourself! And your way goes past yourself, and past your seven devils! You will be a heretic to yourself and witch and soothsayer and fool and doubter and unholy one and villain. You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame: how could you become new, if you had not first become ashes?" I read out, Dwayne moves his arms up and down numerous times.
I look around after I read this snippet of words, and look around me, spotting Olive practicing her routine, and Frank entering the convenience store, leaving Edwin alone in the car. I zone out for maybe a few seconds before I snap out of it. I notice a man leaving the convenience store dressed fancily. He walks over to a silver car and the driver looks back, only to look back at the road and speed off.
"We should be heading back to the car. Looks like everyone's back except for Frank." I explain, getting off of Dwayne's back and walking towards the car.
I hear a faint "hmph" and I smile to myself. I arrive back at the car and push past Edwin to get the seat near the window so I don't have to strain my neck every time to see the scenery. 'It can be Dwayne's neck problem.' I think to myself, only to chuckle lightly.
"You thinkin' of Dwayne?" Edwin asks.
I turn to Edwin and look at him, confused.
"What?" I ask, quirking a brow at him.
"Dwayne? My grandson? Y'know, the one you
eye-bang every time you see him?" Edwin asks, making me blush.
"And that too. The reddening of your face." Edwin says nonchalantly, looking out the open door and at Frank. Frank who is coming out rather quickly from the convenient store.
Frank throws what looks to be porn magazines at Edwin and sits in the second row of the VW. Frank seems to be fuming, or at least very sad.
"What's wrong Frank?" I ask, looking from Edwin to Frank.
"Nothing." Frank states coldly. I just nod, knowing he doesn't want to talk about it.
"Can we just talk about you're love for Dwayne for crying out loud?" Edwin yells, making me flinch.
"Oh, yeah...that talk." I mumble, turning back to Edwin.
"It's a bit obvious you two like each other you know." Frank says suddenly, making me turn quickly to look at him.
"You're on Edwin's side too?!" I yell, exiting the vehicle and speed walk past Sheryl, Olive, Richard, and Dwayne.
I feel my face heat up with anger, entering the convenient store and walking quickly towards the bathroom. I see Dwayne and everyone else hop in the VW before I slam the bathroom door behind me and lock it. I sit on the covered toilet and place my head in my hands. I feel hot tears drip from my eyes and onto my hands. I let out an angry sigh and stand up, turning to the bathroom mirror, and slamming my hands onto the sides of the sink.
I look at myself in the mirror and groan, my face red, my eyes puffy with tears. I look at myself for a good few minutes and breathe, letting my anger fade away. I release the sides of the sink and stand up straight, only to exit the bathroom. I walk out of the store, noticing the VW was missing from where it was originally parked just a few minutes ago. I groan a groan of frustration, and sit down on the side of the store. Only to sit and wait for who knows how long.
•Dwayne's pov:
I see a figure rush past me, but I have no clue who it was. The person sped into the convenient store and after that, I thought nothing of them. I get into the VW, along with my mom, Richard, and Olive. Richard gets into the drivers seat and Edwin, along with Frank, close the VW door. We begin to drive off, and I go to lean against Y/N, only to hit the side of the VW. I look around and notice she's not in the bus with us. She's gone. I furiously write down a question, then hand it to uncle Frank.
"'Where's Y/N?'" Frank asks, causing everyone to turn their heads, only to not see her in the bus next to me.
"Uh-oh." Richard says, trying to find the next turn for us to head back to the convenience store.
I begin to worry, wondering if she possibly has gotten hurt or kidnapped or something like that. We whip the VW around once we find a correct exit, and go back down the highway.
"It'll be okay Dwayne. We'll get back to get her, I promise." Olive says, only to put her headphones back on and turn back around.
Uncle Frank pats my shoulder and offers a smile. I just nod my head back. The bus eventually slows down to an extent, and I look outside Edwin's window to spot Y/N sitting down on the ground. Frank leans over Olive and Edwin leans forwards, opening up the doors. Y/N looks up, her eyes red and puffy from crying. She stands up suddenly and rubs her face, instantly running towards the bus. She smiles when I look out the doors and lean over Franks seat. She runs and dives into the VW and lands in Franks arms, except she's careful not to touch his injured wrists.
She pants, out of breath. She rolls off Frank and quickly moves to sit next to me and Edwin.
"T-thanks for coming back." Y/N says, causing everyone to chuckle, except for Olive.
"You're our family, of course we came back. Plus, Dwayne here would've flipped his shit." Edwin says, smacking my shoulder. He winks at me and I narrow my eyes over at him.
"Glad to know people actually care." Y/N mumbles, only to lean her head onto my shoulder and close her eyes. Before I know it, her eyes are closed and soft snores leave her lips. I just smile and place my head against hers, drifting off as well.

I'm not dead!!! Yay! Sorry it's a shorter chapter, but I should be updating still, just a lot less often. Stay sane my friends!
